Since seeing these new Cobra drivers on the driving range at the PGA Tour Shriners Kids Open in October and Rickie Fowler at the season-ending Grant Thornton Invitational in December There have been a lot of rumors about these new Cobra drivers since they were used at the Invitational.
What’s the latest trend?
Cobra calls the series its “fastest, best-fitting metalwoods ever,” and will come in four models: DS-Adapt LS, DS-Adapt X, DS-Adapt Max-K and DS-Adapt Max-D.
What makes it special?
Key to the range is the socket technology, most obviously because of its adjustable qualities. Cobra named it the FutureFit33 adjustable hosel system, which can achieve 33 unique loft and lie angle settings. Each one can be adjusted independently, with the goal of ensuring a square face at aim.
What did the cobra say?
“FutureFit33 is a true breakthrough in metal-wood fittings,” said Jose Miraflor, vice president of product architecture and consumer relations for Cobra Puma Golf. “Never before has any socket system offered 33 unique loft and lie angle settings that can be adjusted so quickly and easily. The 33 settings are more than four times our previous socket system and the closest more than twice that of competitors.
What is progressive aerodynamic shaping?
In the DS-Adapt LS, this creates a significantly higher crown height, rear bulge and heel aerodynamic shape, but with a more compact silhouette.
For the 460cc DS-Adapt X, the driver head is noticeably balanced, offering a traditional profile for forgiveness and speed.
DS-Adapt Max-K is particularly forgiving in the 10K MOI space. Its 460cc profile is the largest in the range.
The DS-Adapt Max-D has a low heel-biased center of gravity that leans toward the left side.
What is adaptive weighting?
Cobra's adaptive weighting system uses the company's newer PWR-Bridge weighting, allowing for different designs in every model and loft.
What does Cobra have to say about this?
“In the LS, the 9-degree head features redesigned, slightly curved PWR-BRIDGE weighting positioned as low and forward as possible for low spin and maximum ball speed. The 10.5-degree LS does not have PWR-BRIDGE and has been repositioned to With free reign of weight, the CG is moved back slightly for more spin and higher launch, resulting in a more playable version of the low-spin LS model.
“Similarly, the DS-ADAPT Fault tolerance.
“DS-ADAPT MAX-K features all discretionary weight at the rear of the clubhead, maximizing forgiveness and consistency.
“The MAX-D model is designed with all discretionary weight in the heel for enhanced slice correction and superior stability.”
What about external weights?
Ah, yes, that last component. DS-Adapt LS and DS-Adapt X include removable external weights.
The LS has three weight ports (two front, one rear), including two 3-gram weights and one 10-gram weight.
The X has a rear counterweight and a front counterweight.
The Max-K has a 10-gram fixed weight on the back for maximum moment of inertia.
The Max-D has a 10-gram fixed weight in the heel for bias.

The Cobra also includes a lightweight carbon crown, lightweight titanium frame and a larger forged face insert with HOT Face technology.
The big question – when will they be released?
The DS-ADAPT series will be available for pre-order starting on December 19th. They'll be available in US stores from January 10th, and in the UK/Europe from January 17th.
