Rory McIlroy stood out and won the championship in his first professional masters. He was playing the Zurich Classic with friend Shane Lowry, where the two played the championship defense.
They had a warm start in the first round, with their goal being a second straight Zurich victory. The first birdie, thanks to Lowry Chip, the second and fourth made them soar early rankings.
The next chapter of their title defense begins on Friday. After the first round of the morning wave, McIlroy and Lowry will switch to the afternoon kickoff time for the second round.
