No fooling around: Michigan’s “official” golf season begins today
Despite the state’s temperatures throughout the state and a massive ice storm occurred in northern Michigan, the “official” golf season begins on April 1.
The above photo was taken by Mrs. Golfblogger at Secret Northern HQ in Golfblogger, just a few steps from Mackinac Bridge (closed due to the storm). That’s the family in the photo.
For non-Michigan, Mackinac is pronounced as “Mack-In-awe”. again. Not an April Fool’s Day joke. When a person moves to Michigan, he must learn a brand new pronunciation scheme for word pronunciation.
The ice storm eliminated power to most northern Michigan counties. Here is a map shared by friends of golf course owners in northern Michigan:

Even in southeastern Michigan, it’s cold. There is no snow on the ground, but today, mercury will be difficult to freeze over freezing.
The “official” golf season is a bit like an artificial structure. Your friendly neighborhood golfer plays golf all year round in Michigan.
“Official” is that, according to Michigan’s USGA and Golf Association, April 1 is when players can start recording their own scores for disability purposes. The “official” season ends on October 31.
Anyway, the upcoming weather is better and Michigan’s daily game is back.
