With the end of the 2024-25 regular season, the Toronto Maple Leafs prepare for the playoffs, reviewing the regular season and evaluating right or wrong is a fairly typical exercise. Mitch Marner and John Tavares have a great season, with the goalkeeper duo doing well and the top players getting the job done. But focusing on gambling with mistakes, disappointments and miscalculated results have been a few individuals this season.

Despite some notable candidates, the most disappointing season belongs to Max Domi.

Why did Domi win the most disappointing season award?

After a year-long, $3 million stable season, LEAFS signed Domi for $3.75 million per quarter. Expectations are high because his work is to provide consistent secondary scores in the mid-term. He worked hard to do that, strideing back after getting the money and tenure he so desperately wanted. Domi scored 8 goals and 31 points in 71 games.

As Jonas Siegel of Track and Field pointed out:

“Not only did Domi score two goals in the first year of a four-year contract, more than 20 games, but his goal was less than last season’s goal, and actually five-on-five-on-five goals.

Whether it is the lack of chemistry to captivity or just bad decision-making, Domi has not yet found his own pace in what should have been a key role. It was too late to change the narrative in his regular season, but he used to prove that he could produce in the playoffs. However, if he can’t find another level, he may not have much rope.

Domi is not the only disappointing maple leaf

Domi may have led the goal when it comes to overwhelming maple leaves, but other players don’t hope as the organization hopes.

Calle Järnkrok had only five points in 16 games during the injury season. Head coach Craig Berube recently pointed out that Järnkrok is still returning to his full form. He pointed out:

“He’s still trying to get his feet inside him. It’s been walking for a long time…he’s trying to get through it, he’s doing a great job. I do hope he can reach another level.”

Jarnkrok has been praised for his contributions in other areas such as Parker owns and defensive performances. He brought other important things to the ice, so the player had a longer belt, even though the leaves required him to step up in production.

Max Pacioretty is another veteran with limited contributions, and also avoids the “most disappointing” label. As the Maple Leafs may hope, the signing has not been cut, but they probably should have seen that already. Multiple injuries have plagued him in recent seasons and have left him nearly half of this season. When he is healthy, he can generate 5 goals and 13 points in 37 games. He has recently returned to ice skating and there are speculation that he can prepare for certain playoffs. Pacioretty’s experience and scoring touch can still be a valuable asset.
