When you look at the Pro Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) playoff rankings, it’s clear that the New York Siren isn’t good. After nine straight losses, the Siren dropped from fourth to sixth in the league. After three weeks of rest for the IIHF Championship, the PWHL is preparing for the final game of the regular season.
Although the Siren was eliminated in the playoffs in the April 26 victory of the Racing Team, there are more to play. Each point obtained in the next few games can give the Siren the right to finish first in the 2025 PWHL draft.
Once a team is eliminated from the playoffs, they usually get every point in the playoffs from victory to give them draft points. This encourages teams to still be successful at the end of the season, not tanks. Both the Siren and Ottawa charges were canceled from the playoffs last season, but New York received the first pick as the Siren earned more points than the charges.
The 2025 PWHL Draft will be held on June 24 at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Ottawa, Ontario. With the announcement of the PWHL’s expansion to Vancouver, fans are still awaiting news about the 2025 draft, especially as all established teams will also be part of the expansion draft. Assuming it’s the same draft as last year, that’s what the sirens need to do to ensure they get the first pick again.
Siren need to stick to their strengths
The Siren was subjected to a strong penalty kill throughout the season. They achieved an 84% success rate in free throw kills, allowing only all other teams to score. They also allowed only two short-handed goals throughout the season.

The sirens were severely lacking in power games, reaching the league’s last place with a 10.2%. Of their 49 strong opportunities, New York scored only five strong goals.
Regarding the special team, the siren has had more success with free throw kills than in the game of power. Hopefully they can continue their goal of not allowing the goal advantage over the next three games.
Sirens need to keep strong players healthy
Of course, the Siren doesn’t want to lose any players. They have disappeared Maja Nylen Persson, who was placed in the long-term injury reserve (LTIR) before resting on March 25. Whether she will return before the siren plays the first game since the break on April 27. They can never be hurt again.
Sarah Fillier has performed well with the siren this season. As the first overall pick in the 2024 PWHL draft, Fillier continues to prove why this is the case. Apart from Fillier, the sirens are unable to lose Corinne Schroeder. She has been an obvious starting goalkeeper for the Siren throughout the season, playing in 19 games. Her percentage of savings (SV%) was .914 and her target average (GAA) was 2.56. Although she had better statistics last season (sv .930, compared to 2.40 for GAA), Schroeder often stayed alert during the season’s games. Schroeder has recorded three games so far, tied for most regular season records in a season set by Kristen Campbell in 2024.
The Sirens are full of powerful players, but some, such as Schroeder and Fillier, are absolutely impossible to lose in New York. They will need to play clean, safe hockey to prevent injuries.
Siren is playing a strong team
The last three games of the Siren could be a struggle. They will occupy Minnesota’s frost on Sunday in the midst of Minnesota’s frost, sitting high in the hexagon, ranking fifth. Siren won four of their first five games against Minnesota this season, which could give them another win.
However, there may be problems with the last two games. The Siren is scheduled to play the Toronto tradeoff on Tuesday, April 29. SCEPTRES wants to be the second team to enter the playoffs tickets and is very close to doing so. The Scepter won three of the previous five games against the Siren, which made New York run for their money. Finally, New York will host Montreal Victoria on Saturday, May 3.
