From Hogan’s alley to Jack’s residence.
Ben Griffin won his second PGA Tour victory in five weeks, earning the highest honor of the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas. Griffin competed in the Memorial Championship this week at the Muirfield Village designed by Jack Nicklaus in Dublin, Ohio, the seventh of eight autographed events planned for the 2025 PGA Tour.
We pointed out in our column last week that colonies can be a good indication of our possible public success. I’m going to say that Muirfield Village is another village to watch out for when setting the barrier to the third major championship of the season. Nicklaus started building the property in 1974, but it never stopped. The last noteworthy adjustment is in 2020 and in 2021. MuirfieldVillage is 72 and now extends to nearly 7,600 yards. This season marks the 50th anniversary of the tournament. It was always a gate event and one of the largest stops for tours beyond the four majors. There are 36 hole cuts this week. The top 50 players and tie can also reach the weekend, as well as anyone within 10 strokes of the lead.
2025 Memorial Championship Odds: Scottie Scheffler’s Favorites in Ohio (Again)

The fairway is relatively spacious in width but is shaded by trees and is very punished with thick, rough borders. The greens are loads of undulating, lightning-fast, curved surfaces. Muirfield, like the main champion, will test all areas of the player’s game. I looked at the stroke above: Open the T-shirt, got palpation: approach, and got the stroke: this week’s T-shirt to green. Avoiding distractions is most of the problems that are not bad. I watched 5 of those with 450-500 yards in sizes of 550-600 and 4 4. Finally, I watched the holes of 175-200 yards approach and got the stroke: placement (Bentgrass).
I believe that it is difficult to log in with great faith this week’s related courses. The course “franchise” designed by Nicklaus looks like a very good pointer. Although I don’t think the layout is particularly similar, Valhalla’s Nicklaus design factor must be the location of the 2024 PGA Championship, where the rankings are filled with players who have succeeded and/or won at Muirfield Village. I also checked out TPC Potomac (2022 Wells Fargo Championship), TPC Twin Cities (3m Open), TPC River Heights (Traveler Championship), East Lake (Travel Championship) and Innisbrook, which are home to Valspar champions.
I’ve played each of the following options for a complete victory. I also played two shortest shots and got the top ten, while the rest were in the top 20.
Collin Morikawa (18-1)
Considering that Morikawa hasn’t tasted victory on American land since 2021, it may be difficult to play a “submit”. Morikawa won three former commemorative titles in that match, namely Viktor Hovland, Billy Horschel and Scottie Scheffler. He won at Muirfield Village while playing at Jack for weeks in 2020. Last year, he finished second in the memorial twice. Morikawa finished the last pair in Valhalla in 2024 and finished second in the tour championships at TPC Twins and East Lake. Morikawa has ranked sixth in this field in the last 36 rounds, SG: Tee to Green.
Justin Thomas (24-1)
We know Thomas has been very good lately, and Morikawa beat him in the 2020 playoffs at Muirfield Village. Thomas finished three runner-up this season, winning two of his last five games. One of the runner-ups was won at the Valspar Championship and this week was a relevant course for us. Thomas ranked in the top five in East Lake, including two runner-ups and top 10 in TPC River Highlands. The only thing that doesn’t support him this week is his fight with putters on the Bentgrass green. However, Thomas did rank 17th on the SG: Putter Tour.

Shane Lowry (40-1)
Lowry won a great victory earlier in his career at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio. Lowry’s best score here is No. 6 in 2021. He also ranked sixth in Valhalla last May. He finished the top ten in the TPC River Highlands, East Lake and Valspar Championships, and he only finished eighth two months ago. In the past 36 rounds, Lowry’s SG in the field: approach and avoidance bogey is fifth. He is in the battle and SG: Tee to Green.
Jordan Spieth (50-1)
It’s been a while since I logged into Spieth to win the golf tournament. In fact, Spieth has never seen a winner circle since 2022, but in his 13 PGA Tours, one was a winner at the Travelers Championship, one at the Valspar Championship and the other at the Tour Championship at East Lake. Spieth finished in the top 20 in the memorial and three top 7. In the past 36 rounds, he has ranked second in 550-600 yards, 550-600 yards, and SG: Tee to Green is ranked 15th.
Robert McIntyre (80-1)
“Bobby Mac” ran last week at the Charles Schwab Challenge in Texas, to finish sixth, where he finished ninth in the SG: Adventure and fifth in the regulations. He has been ranked ninth in this field and ninth on the tee in the past 36 rounds. This is McIntyre’s first time attending the memorial, but I believe he is a player at his best on a difficult golf course. Last year, he finished eighth in the PGA Championship in Valhalla.
Bud Cauley (100-1)
I believe this is my second time playing for the Alabama Golf team this season. In the process of returning to form, Cauley has performed well in 2025, finishing the top six for four times, including third place in the Colonial last week and fourth place in the Valspar Championship two months ago. This week, he ranked in the top 17 or higher in every statistic he considered in the last 36 rounds. He was ninth in the competition, with 11th in SG: TEE to Green, with a hole at 175-200 yards close to second.
