On April 5, the Edmonton Oilers announced that they had signed goalkeeper Nathaniel Day for a three-year entry-level contract that will begin next season.
Day, Edmonton chose 184Th Choosing the 2023 NHL Draft, he recently ended his four-season junior career with the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).
He is 20 years old, 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds from Grimsby, Ontario. There are six more things to know about the latest oiler contractors.
He scored many years of goals
In a recent interview with Mid-Michigan now, Day discussed when he first fell in love with the goalkeeper, at the novice level, which was targeted at the under-9 children in Ontario under-9.
“They made us spin goalkeepers every other game, so when it was my turn, it was fun to get the cool gear and stand online and stop the puck,” Day said. “I remember telling my dad that I wanted to play goalkeepers, and he was very upset about it, but it was the best and I haven’t looked back since.”
He is wearing maple leaves
At the age of 16, he participated in the 2021 Capital Challenge of Canadian Hockey, which was held in Ottawa from November 26 to December 1. The tournament consists of three men’s under-17 teams and the Canadian national women’s team.
The white men of Canada beat the Canadian National Women’s Team to a 7-3 victory during the day and will continue to win gold medals in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China in a few weeks.
He led the OHL this season
Day is the busiest Netminder in the OHL this season, leading all goalkeepers in the game (59) and minute matches (3,401). He has barely had a leave of absence, playing 59 of Flint’s 68 games in the 2024-25 timeline. A day started 13 back-to-back times this season, including three consecutive days in November.
The Grimsby goalkeeper also played all five of Flint’s games in the 2025 OHL playoffs. Kitchener Rangers were eliminated by Kitchener Rangers in the seven best first-round series ending April 4, which signed with Edmonton on April 4.
He created the record in Flint
2024 – 25 campaign Day creates Firebirds’ single-season match and goalkeeper minutes. He also combined the team’s record with the two with a season of play.

Day has become an all-time leader in several goalkeeper categories in the Firebirds, including game (153), minutes (8,482) and victory (70). Firebirds’ record began in 2015-16, their first season at Flint. The team was originally located in Detroit, then Plymouth, Michigan, where it was known as the Whaler.
He is his first
Edmonton never chose Firebirds player during the OHL team’s Flint before calling Day’s name in the 6th round of the 2023 NHL Draft.
Since then, the oilers drafted another firebird center, Connor Clattenburg, and Edmonton has selected 160Th Drafting in 2024. Clattenburg signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Oilers last December and is currently signing Bakersfield’s Condor with Bakersfield’s AHL.
Since 2016, 18 players have been selected from the Firebirds, most notably Ty Dellandrea, who was taken away for 13Th Overall, Dallas Stars was in 2018. That day was the first one, only the one they played between the pipes.
He has a long-standing career debut
Day played his first professional game on April 6 against Edmonton’s ECHL branch The Wayne Komets, who was eliminated in a 7-0 victory over the Cincinnati Hurricanes.
The 20-year-old threw aside all 24 photos he faced in 60 minutes and joined the goalkeeper exclusive club, which is not allowed to debut at the professional player. He has also become the eighth time networker since 1952 to record the closing ceremony in his first match against Komets.
“He’s great,” Komets coach Jesse Kallenchy said of Day. “He controlled his rebounds. He was big. He did all the savings he needed. It was just that he made an incredible effort in a very stressful moment.” Magazine Gazette4/6/25).
