4 draft picks in the last round

We will be halfway through the 107th PGA Championship and for the second straight day, 500-1 before the game Longshot Jhonattan Vegas is the owner of the two-stroke leader in Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, NC.

Las Vegas launched at a speed below 64 at a pace Thursday and delivered the first round leader with a 200-1 long shadow. While it’s always difficult to repeat performance to follow particularly low rounds, Vegas held his own game Friday, playing his own two-shot advantage with a 70-under 1 shot.

Entering the weekend, three players were in the two, Matt Fitzpatrick, Matthieu Pavon and Si Woo Kim, who tied for 64 in a day’s low game, including on the 252-yard par 3 sixth hole. Max Homa, a former champion of Quail Hollow of the 2019 Wells Fargo Championship, found a groove that has now been dodging for a long time and tied Kim with his own 64 rounds on Friday. Homa, along with world number one, Scottie Scheffler, made three shots under 5. Ten players are under 4, four-shot guard, and 36 holes.

The golf course was still a bit softer on Friday before the championship started on Thursday, but it seems like things will happen soon. I believe we can expect the Greens to become more determined over the weekend and increasingly difficult to maintain in such a number of long-range approach shots. The wind should enter the 15-20 mph community on Saturday evening. Indeed, it was indeed a “move day” for some players who were behind the game earlier Saturday, beating most of the heavier winds.

Bryson DeChambeau (+850)

This price may be a little brighter for DeChambeau – I’d love to see 10-1 or higher – but I still believe he’s ready to take action on the weekend. Aside from getting a stroke, he did a great job: around the green, he ranked 66th in the field after two rounds, almost losing the court in the area. As the golf course continues to dry up, I believe the advantage of the big hitters will increase as they will be able to hit shorter irons into these vegetables, and these greens may become increasingly difficult to hold. With the way DeChambeau beats the tee, I believe he will create a lot of opportunities to close the Vegas gap.

JJ Spaun (70-1)

Win 70-1? Of course, why not? However, I also feel that playing Spaun around 3-1 to finish the top 10 is a good bet. He is currently ranked 17th after two rounds of stable rounds of 71 and 68. He ranked 15th in this field: Off Tee, and for SG: Entering and driving accuracy. It was the putter that made him retreat and lost on the court through two rounds. I hope this will get better sometime on the weekend and Spaun will find itself having a great chance of finishing the top 10 or even better.

Harris English Top 20-Finish (+360)

Very similar to Spaun, English performs well from T-shirts to green, but struggles with putts – English is a great putt. English ranked 19th in this field, SG:Off Tee, close to 23rd and ranked seventh in the regulations, but he ranked 59th in the SG:TOUM competition, 59th in the field, and is also better than stroke in the field. I hope both guys can make the moves on the weekend.

Max Homa (18-1)

I mentioned that Homa was the winner of the past, and he also won at Torrey Pines, which I think is a related course from Quail Hollow. But we know Homa has been struggling for the past year and I don’t expect him to suddenly work hard to solve in the big championship game. He is currently sticking with a very hot putt, ranking 11th for SG in this field: hitting 36 holes, but he ranks 58th among 74 players, while SG: approaching players. If he continues to fight the iron, I can’t see putters sticking to it.
