It never gets easier. Even though this was the seventh time, it was still injured in the same way. Toronto’s Maple Leafs were essentially Game 7 last night’s game 7, losing 6-1, watching their season end.
Starting with the jump, the Panthers want more. In the first 10 minutes of the first stage, they tried on shooting percentage and shooting. Maple Leaf does manage to even rise in the second half, but it’s a completely different game. Florida dominated the hockey battle, shot, and advanced – which led to them scoring three goals. In the third inning, Max Domi tried to reintegrate his team with an early goal, but the Panthers responded just 47 seconds later, then added two more times to knock the game out and advanced to the final against the Carolina Hurricanes.
That’s the end of the season, which means until next year, it’s Maple Leaf’s last takeaway piece. So let’s bow in the second round of the series and get some final gains from Game 7.
Maple Leaf failed to win another match 7
Once the 7th game was confirmed, the tension began to a lot of fan base. However, there is a small sense of optimism – myself included. It feels like after the 6th championship they will enter Game 7 and play the finals ticket. That didn’t happen. They were flat, hesitant, and eventually repeated the same story we saw over and over again. Another Game 7 loss – for the seventh consecutive time, for those who keep track of it.

Maple leaves deserve better results over the past seven or eight years. But this is not one of them. The only good they looked was in the last 10 minutes of the first phase. It seems maybe they will take over the second time. Instead, they look completely lost. There is no urgency, no energy, no answer. They chased the game for the next 30 to 35 minutes, playing directly with the Florida style and watching everything collapse.
Need to change this summer
If Game 7 shows us anything, it is that changes are coming- they should. Auston Matthews and William Nylander won’t go anywhere unless something unexpected happens. But there are real questions about John Tavarez and Mickey Mana. Their two contracts will expire next July, and if the maple leaves want to shake everything, it may involve transferring from one of them. Morgan Rielly is another name to consider. He scored five goals on the ice last night and his overall game has taken a big step. The problem is his contract – he has another five years of $7.5 million, which makes it difficult to move. Still, on the core side, GM Brad Treliving has to look at all the options.
Apart from that, the defense this season is very solid and the goalkeepers are great. The tandem of Anthony Stolarz and Joseph Woll gave them the chance to win most nights. The real focus needs to be on the forward group. There are players like Calle Järnkrok, David Kämpf and Ryan Reaves – if you keep moving from these contracts, you will release about $5.8 million. If they decide not to bring back Tavares or Marner, they need to re-sign Matthew Knies. But for now, they have $26 million in projected cap space. It could be close to $32 million if they release more – which would give them room to overhaul and eventually make it to the conference finals or Stanley Cup finals.
