We all want to impress our match partners with specially executed bunker shots, but two things often get in the way: our skill level and the difficulties facing our situation.
To combat these adversities, Subpar co-host Drew Stoltz has a cheeky solution: use manual wedges – cautious of course! During this week’s emergency, he explained how.
“There are several disclaimers for this,” he said. “One, this should not be used in tournament games. Two, this should not be used when gambling with your friends. But if you’re there just playing with friends who are idiots like my friends, it’s an easy way to get out of the situation.”
Stoltz stands in a deep bunker and demonstrates this strategy, facing a pin that shoots downwards into a short direction. However, the depth of the bunker provided cover for the rest of his members.
“My friends were there and they couldn’t see me,” he said. “So it’s an easy way to make it look like you just became a really good bunker player without actually being really good.”
The key to fake a perfect cover shot comes down to things: a realistic thump with sand splashes and proper throws.
“You have to create a lot of sand so that your idiot friends don’t pay attention and they only see the sand,” Stolz said. “The second is the timing of throwing. It needs to appear immediately after a heavy blow so that it seems to be an actual golf ball.”
