How New York Islanders Will Handle Their RFA
NYI Hockey’s Ross Macias Now: Macias watches contract expansion for restricted free agent defensemen Noah Dobson and Alexander Romanov. Earlier, he mentioned how the islanders leaned towards James Hagens’ Matthew Schaefer, a No. 1 pick.
NHL Rumors: Islanders, Blackhawks, Claken and some teams that may wish to spend
Noah Dobson is believed to be re-signed and stay with the islanders. The new GM Mathieu Darche likes Dobson, despite reports that he has reported his name in trade rumors. According to AFP Analytics’ forecast, Dobson may look for an eight-year contract with $10 million in AAV. That doesn’t mean he’ll get that, but it feels like he won’t be less than five years. That could be a six-year contract of $80 million to $9 million.
Macias wrote that Simon Holmstrom and Maxim Tsyplakov will sign a shorter extension. So, where is Alexander Romanov? Well, the forecast made him a deal of about $4.48 million a year, and if the islanders did go to Schaefer, they would have a defensive Trojan. If anyone decides to keep Romanov, he must go. But with Isiah George and Schaefer perhaps ready, the islanders will make a tough decision in Romanov.
Don Sweeney works on the Boston Bruins roster
Fluto Shinzawa of Track and Field: Now that Bruins has hired a new coach at Marco Sturm, GM Don Sweeney needs to start his own roster. The Bruins missed the playoffs and moved out players like Trent Frederick, Brandon Carlo and Brad Marchander by the trade deadline. For brown bears, this is a new era of black and gold.
NHL Rumors: Brown Bears, Penguins, Jets, Maple Leafs and Avalanches
The Bruins have a solid roster with Elias Lindholm, David Pastrnak, Pavel Zacha and Casey Mittelstadt. On the backend, there are Charlie McAvoy, Nikita Zadorov and Hampus Lindholm. But, Sweeney’s question is, will he bring Morgan Geekie back? He is an excellent member of the Boston Bruins this season. Let’s not forget the tandem of Jeremy Swayman and Joonas Korpisalo.
However, the lineup needs to be young, and they need to replace things like Marcande, Carlo and Frederick. Boston’s next priority will be adding goals scores. While Mitch Marner may not be on the table, the Bruins can’t outperform the players this summer as they did last year. However, the trade is not about getting the possibilities of the type of player Marco Sturm wants.
