Alex Scott

England U21 midfielder Alex Scott urged his teammates to “replicate what the lads did two years ago” in a clash with Spain’s three Lions U21 quarterfinals on Saturday.

The match at TRNAVA will be a repeat of the 2023 final – England won 1-0 after three Lions, the runner-up of Group B, made progress after a 2-1 win over rival Germany on Wednesday night.

Scott was next to Lee Carsley in the side of Ansgar Knauff and Nelson Weiper’s first U21 goal 2-0.

However, despite dominance in the game, the match holders were unable to make a late comeback and had to finish second in the group and date familiar enemies in the next round.

“We were disappointed with the results,” Scott told Channel 4 after the game. “We didn’t get started well enough and ended up paying for it.

“Thankfully, we’ve already finished second, so it’s positive and we’re going to the quarterfinals right now.”

Asked about the importance of his goal in showing attitudes that never performed, the 21-year-old Bournemouth player said: “Yes [it was] Huge. I think the second half has completely changed.

“We changed the shape and it released Macca [James McAtee] Ranked 10th. We definitely improved, and that’s something we can reach the quarterfinals right now. ”

Despite entering the knockout stage, Carsley’s young Lions are far from clinical before scoring in the opening three games.

However, Scott insists that the goal is: “We work hard in training. The lad scores goals every day. This hasn’t hit it in the Olympics, but with the quality we have in this team, it’s just a matter of when the goal starts to fly.”

When asked about the last eight showdowns of a favorite with Spain, Scott bluntly in the assessment.

He added: “Copy what the lads did two years ago.”

“It will be tough. Every Spanish team is excellent on the ball, very calm and composed. We will recover from it, look at Spain and take them apart.

“Hopefully we can perform well.”

The kickoff for England U21 vs. Spain U21 is 20:00 on Saturday, June 21 (UK time).
