Manager Javier Mascherano insists that after a moment of magic was produced by Lionel Messi, his Miami team could do something “amazing” as the MLS costume faced Porto from behind, with its first victory at the 2025 Club World Cup 2025.
Messi scored the winner with his 50th club goal and his 68th straight free throw in his career as the 37-year-old Argentine covered his age and shocked him at the Portuguese heavyweight match.
Miami felt the fine of early Samu Aghehowa and was lagging behind during rest. But the comeback almost started after a fresh start, Telasco Segovia drilled into the equalizer and entered the second half for 90 seconds.
The stage was then set to Messi and eight-time Ballon d’Or champions, and seven minutes later, the ecstatic scene inside the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta inspired his scene when he ed a sublime free kick from outside the box to complete the turnaround.

The result means Mascherano is on the verge of the knockout stage, and the Miami boss can’t hide his joy after the game.
“These guys did a great show,” Mascherano told Daz. “They worked very, very hard with a team with a very high quality.
“But today, we can show the world and ourselves that we can compete with any team.
“Players know they can do it, they can work together. When we’re together, we can do something amazing.
“It’s great for the American people to see our team in this kind of game.”
Next is Mascherano, Messi and Co. It was a showdown with Palmeiras on the Brazilian side, who had earlier won the Al Ahly match with Chelsea-Bound’s teenager Estevao.
This means a draw on Tuesday morning (British time) will allow both teams to qualify for 16 rounds, and wins on both sides will see their progress as group winners.
