Man City beat Arsenal in each of the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 championships, and Arteta’s side fought Pep Guardiola until the last day of last year. However, it’s close, but without cigars, Arsenal gently surrendered the latest Premier League champion to Liverpool’s 10 points.
After many seasons of steady establishment, Arteta undoubtedly transformed the Gunners to the elite level, which was evident in last season’s Champions League, when they struck 15-time European champion Real Madrid in the sword.
The progress made is clear, but Arteta has been under fire in the past few years for Arsenal’s lack of trophy.
New sporting director Andrea Berta is tasked with supporting Espanyol this summer, with Arsenal signing midfielder Martin Zubimendi and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga (The Times), the real driving force.
However, their lack of prolific forwards is seen as the main elephant in the room. By far, this is the position that supporters most eager to be strengthened, with Berta providing deals for Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.
Viktor Gyokeres believes he will join Arsenal
The former has been the center of a nervous transfer legend, with sporting publicly denying the claim that the gyokeres could leave with their president Frederico Varandas for £60m to target the players’ agents.
The “underrated” striker scored 54 goals in all games last season, which helped Primeira Liga Giants cancel their first domestic doubles in two decades, and Gyokeres wouldn’t leave sports until one of his suitors met his asking price.
Arsenal does have a trump card, and it is reliable that Gillox is prioritizing the transfer to the Fabrizio Romano.
Now, according to Talksport’s Alex Crook, Gyokeres is clearly convinced that he will join Arsenal and even circled this to his close range.
“I had a message 24 hours ago suggesting Viktor Gyokeres tell friends and family that he wants to join Arsenal,” Crook said in a TalkSport breakfast earlier this week.
“We know United are interested in signing him, and obviously have this existing relationship with Ruben Amorim.
“But Arsenal can offer Champions League football and maybe tilt in the next season. Sports matches will hit the consequences between HardBall, Gyokerers and the club, as his agent suggested they reached the gentleman’s consent that he could leave for £60m, and I think they are looking for £80m.
“Arsenal is juggling him and Benjamin Cesco, and they have talks with Leipzig, but for the moment, I want to say that Gigi drivers look more likely.”
The players’ wishes are clear at this point, but Sporting’s requirements remain a major obstacle, so it will be very interesting to see how this evolving story unfolds in the next few weeks.
