3 ABBOTSFORD CANUCKS Participates in AHL Playoff MVP – Hockey Writer – Abbotsford Canucks

Abbotsford Canucks is on the brink of greatness after defeating Charlotte’s pawn 3-2 on Thursday. They now lead 3-1 and can win the Calder Cup tonight in front of the raucous crowd in the center of Abbotsford. Throughout the playoffs, they were led by three names: Arturs Silovs, Linus Karlsson and Arshdeep Bains, and although the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy (A. Hockey League Playoff MVP) may have a clear lead, it can also be easily separated between the trio. If it weren’t for Silovs’ shooting goalkeeper and Karlsson and Bains’ offensive contributions, then Canucks wouldn’t be today. Basically, the definition of MVP.

Arturs Silovs

At this point, it seems that the Artie party is not over. Schillov has been called since the first game against Tucson Passers-in-Line, and is a favorite of the MVP Awards. His figures are otherworldly at this point as he is in the average of 1.94 goals (GAA) and .923 percent savings (SV%) and five closings. In the final alone, he had 0.943 SV% – basically brick walls. He has made it to tennis in all 15 Canucks wins and it’s easy to win the goalkeeper final against veteran Kappo Kahkonen, who also made it to the final with outstanding numbers and lost just two games.

If Schillovs can continue his clutch goalkeeper in the series definition game, he could be the 18th goalkeeper in AHL history, winning the Calder Cup and jack A Butterfield trophy, joining NHL stars of NHL Stars Carey Price, Robin Lehner, Olaf Kolzig and Jeff Hackett.

Linus Karlsson

Karlsson is second in the Silovs in the MVP category and has been on fire since the start of the playoffs. He led the league with goals (11) and entered Game 5 and scored 18 of 22 games in Abbotsford. No team was able to slow him down, including the usual defensive rough inspectors who allowed only 21 goals to reach the finals. He has already scored two goals and six points in the series and is currently in a three-game winning streak, with his best score in Laugher, 6-1, in Game 3, where he has a goal and four points.

Karlsson looks like he’s ready for a full-time role in the NHL, and so does the Canucks, offering him a one-way extension on March 13.

Arshdeep Bains

Finally, there is Bains, who recently joined the MVP conversation in the Western Conference Finals against Texas Stars and Calder Cup Finals against Chess Pits. The Surrey has had five goals in his last five games, including three in the finals – 13 points in his last 10 games. Before he won his first playoff against Ontario in Game 5, he scored 16 games in his final game against Ontario’s dominance on April 19. He got hot at the right time, strengthened and provided the offense that the guys at the highest line asked for and wow.

Bains scored a monster performance with a 6-1 win in Game 3, scoring two goals and four points, and added another goal in Game 4, adding to the highlight curly solo dash, dancing defensive player Matt Kiersted and sliding five holes on Kahkonen. Like Karlsson, he also has a reason to be part of Vancouver’s regular roster next season, rather than a yo-yo like he did in the past two seasons.

A victory…

If the Canucks win the Calder Cup tonight, it will be the backs of Silov, Carlson and Baynes. I bet at least one of them will be the star in front of the Abbotsford Center crowd, not only improving the Calder Cup, but also bringing back Jack the Jack as the playoff MVP. The Canucks fans are good, this should be a good person.
