FRISCO, Texas – Lexi Thompson took a walk on the first tee on Saturday at Fields Ranch East in PGA Frisco. The 30-year-old LPGA star played the penultimate spot in the 2025 kpmg Women’s PGA Championship and entered the third round with a legal opportunity.
Thompson’s range meeting went smoothly. She screamed with her earplugs and stabbed the ball into Texas, a smile appeared on her face. As she walked to the first tee, she stopped to take pictures with the young fans. Just as she accepted her decision to leave the full-time game, she kept embracing the moment.
She walked to the first tee and straddled her journey along the center of the first fairway, and her parade began. But as the pressure increases and the bet becomes real, the big tournament changes immediately.
Thompson slid on her second shot and rolled the ball to 117 yards of the fairway. Her third shot became worse and worse when Thompson knocked the ball down right wing and drove it into the free throw area.
The TV microphone seemed to attract Thompson, saying the 30-mile wind broke her second shot, leading to the top. After the round, she smiled at the excuse.
“I mean, it’s blowing, but, no, I’m just cold,” Thompson said. “And the other, I don’t even know what’s going on. It’s just a little more complicated.”
After the fall, Thompson threw a fifth shot from the back of the green and eventually walked with a three-tide and three-turn eight. She made another bogey for the second time, four more holes in two holes, and suddenly eight shots were shot behind 36 hole leader Jeeno Thitikul.
“It’s hard to say at least,” Thompson said of his beginning. “Yes, I’m on the fight bus on the first two holes. I’m like, OK, we’re cooked here again.”
Thompson is no stranger to the main champion car accident. Her legendary career was filled with major championship opportunities, wasting things like what happened in the first hole of PGA Frisco.
Thompson could have disappeared. With the whipping of the wind and Texas Hot Baking competitors, she could completely collapse and siege the rankings after the top sought after starts.
But instead, Lexi Thompson succumbed, resolute, and found a way to continue.
After another bogey on the eighth, she scored nine shots and then hit the last nine holes under one to score three high scores of 75 wins and ended the day in third place.
“It’s being able to stay positive and do your best at this moment,” Thompson said after the round. “Inside, I’m definitely a little boiling. … So I’m just trying to stay in the moment, shoot, do a good savings and keep it going.
Thompson said of her 75: “From the beginning, I’ll accept it. It’s just a tough day; it’s a tough and long, windy, and the pace of the game is very slow. But overall, from the day, I started with a 4-seat, and my 4-seat was around 4.
Saturday at PGA Frisco is about resilience. In the 1960s, there were only three under-par rounds, with only 54-hole leaders Minjee Lee and Grace Kim shooting.
Arguably, no one showed more resilience on Saturday than Thompson, who could have withdrawn early in terms of two disastrous swings. But she stabilized herself and blew up many of the best days in the world in PGA Frisco.
She will start seven shots on Sunday Lee. But, on the first three days of golf courses, nothing is possible.
Lexi Thompson will have an external opportunity to end her major drought on Sunday. It was a tough sentence as she drifted into the Texas desert with the third shot of the day.
