Delap claims “exciting” Chelsea project is the reason to choose Bruce over competitors

Liam Delap took a step towards Chelsea after relegated from the Premier League earlier this month and now he has opened up why he chose the Blues.

The 22-year-old has attracted attention with 12 goals in 37 top-tier matches last semester, triggering a transfer match at several Premier League clubs, thanks in part to the release clause of £30 million.

Manchester United, Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Everton all compete for his signature, while Drapp’s former club Manchester City also retained the buyback terms.

However, Chelsea finally secured the striker and spoke before the World Cup clash with ES Tunisia clubs, Delap explained what convinced him he had made the transition.

“You never know if this is the right decision, but you just have to go with the gut and hope it works,” he said.

“You have to take some time. I spent a few days talking to people and deciding on my future.”

A major factor in Delap’s decision is the opportunity to reunite with familiar faces. Among them is Cole Palmer, who played with Delap at Manchester City.

“I asked him what he needed to ask him, and he told me what I needed to know. But I didn’t like too much information. Ultimately, it was my decision, so I just wanted my head to be clear,” Delap added.

Another familiar face is Enzo Maresca, who worked with Delap during his time at Manchester City. The forward thrived under Maresca’s guidance in the Under-21 game, scoring 20 goals and winning the PL2 player of the season as City canceled the 2020-21 championship.

“I have a great relationship with the manager,” Drapp said.

“I know how he’s doing. I’ve played in this system before. It’s very similar now, but there are very few tweaks. I know a lot of the players and clubs here, how they look at the future. That’s what makes me excited.”

Although Manchester United was previously regarded as the leader, they are not eligible to compete in Europe to fight them. Chelsea’s qualification for the Champions League presents additional appeal.

“It’s not all and the end, because I’m also looking for the seasons ahead, but it also helps,” Delap admitted.
