Chelsea holds “positive” conversation about “explosive” signatures

Whether the Club World Cup marks the end of a successful 2024/25 campaign or is it ready for the start of the new season, though it is obvious that Chelsea is starting to find their grooves under the Enzo Maresca regime.

After winning Champions League qualification and conference league glory in May, the Blues looked destined to go further this summer’s Bump Championship, favoring Benfica’s last 16 draws on the card.

Newcomer Liam Delap is no longer under the start, the West Londoner’s new number nine quickly gets stuck in his new environment, while Nicolas Jackson’s suspension suffers.

The 22-year-old was only able to snap up from the relegated Ipswich Town, with just £30m, and if his early show-up event was to be put into practice, it could represent the Blues’ real bargain, thus providing a goal and an assist for his first three outings.

Delap has begun to show his value during a series of young additions to Stamford Bridge under Todd Boehly. Hopefully Chelsea’s next potential arrival can follow suit.

Chelsea’s summer transfer search latest

In recent years, a growing theme has emerged in Chelsea, with Delap following Cole Palmer, Romeo Lavia and Tosin Adarabioyo joining the club, after having been educated on the youth team in Manchester City.

The trend also led Bruce to snap up another Etihad graduate Jadon Sancho last summer, though the club eventually had a chance to cancel a £5 million cancellation to cut his time in the capital despite the opportunity to trade permanently.

Sancho’s departure – along with Mykhaylo Mudryk’s ongoing absence – only with the rise in demand for new faces to the left, Boehly and Co are still struggling with disposable men’s city product Jamie Gittens.

Indeed, Florian Plettenberg of the German Sky reported that there was a “new and active negotiation” over the British between Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund, which was in previous statement that the 20-year-old had agreed with Bruce.

That said, Pretenberg outlines that a club-club compromise has not yet been reached, and that if a sale is to be considered, the Bundesliga clothing still costs 65 million euros (£55 million) in fees.

Transfer Insider noted that Dortmund knew there were other suitors involved, although there have been “no direct negotiations” with Bayern Munich so far. So, it seems that Chelsea is still leading the game.

Why Gittens can be Chelsea’s own Florian Wirtz

Chelsea are currently delighting with Young Delap, although it is hard to ignore the Premier League statement so far this summer in the form of Liverpool’s £116 million signing for Florian Wirtz.

Anfield pulled out of Bayer Leverkusen and in order to sign the 22-year-old German sensation, Wirtz stood out from behind in a season, scoring 31 goals and assisting in all games in 45 games.

Gittens – 49 appearances last semester were involved in Germany with 17 goals – although he could represent Maresca from the Bundesliga’s own exciting, fleet footsteps acquisition.

Indeed, Dortmund Speedster was described by talent scout Jacek Kulig as a “exploding winger” and is recognized as a statistically similar player to Wirtz, who was on the 2024/25 position among the top German pilots in 2024/25.

The dribbling ability of the duo in particular proves this similarity, with Gitens in the top 1% of his improved goals and per 90 successes, while WIRTZ trails only after the top 5% and the top 3% of the same or two metrics.

Although the English youth star scored only eight goals and only four assists in the Bundesliga, it only appeared in just 23 league matches, ensuring that he scored every 90 record non-racing goals actually put him ahead of Wirtz.

This suggests that if consistent game is provided, London-born Wonderkid may reach higher heights, thus providing Maresca with another exciting offensive weapon to wield.

As Kulig pointed out, the comfortable left or more is “inside forward”, the versatility of Gittens once again highlights the similarities with Wirtz, and the newcomers at Liverpool are comfortable lined up throughout the front line.

The report said the £55 million price may seem high for a player who hasn’t won the senior cap in England, but – if they start to discover in the case of Delap – if he does manage to copy the £116 million Wirtz hero, the deal may actually represent a bargain.
