England international striker Tammy Abraham is preparing to join Turkish club Besiktas, with a reported 20 million euros (£17 million) deal as Rome. The 27-year-old accepted the move appears to be intending to address pressing financial problems in Italy.
By June 30, Rome was desperate to raise 13 million euros (£11 million) to meet the Financial Fair Play (FFP) requirements and avoid fines. A quick deal between the club and Abraham himself means that paperwork is now being completed and medical examinations are expected to be conducted soon.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano first reported the agreement. The news also received support from Italian sports media, such as Sky Sport Italia and Sport Mediaset, as well as Turkish transfer expert Ekrem Konur.
Abraham returned from AC Milan’s loan, scoring 10 goals in all games and earning seven assists in 45 games. Milan recently confirmed that they would not make his loan a permanent deal, paving the way for him to leave Rome.
The striker joined Rome from Chelsea’s Youth Academy in 2021, with an initial fee of €41 million (£35 million), plus about €4 million (£3.4 million). He also played 11 advanced games for England and scored 3 goals.
Interest in Abraham comes from other clubs, including Galatasaray and Zinit St. Petersburg. Premier League teams such as West Ham, Everton and newly promoted Leeds United have also shown interest in buying forwards. However, Besiktas seems to have won his signature.
Abraham is reportedly keen to guarantee his starting center, and Besiktas is still trying to fully agree. If the transfer is passed, he will join the Turkish club’s former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
