Yes, Greyserman applied a piece of iron to the No. 1 iron at the Scottish Open last season, but rest assured that this is not your grandfather’s No. 1 iron. The Callaway Apex UT that Greyserman calls is more forgiving than the 70s Blade 1 irons, but in the 16-degree loft it is still a club, not for the faint heart.
Despite this, the club is a singles pony problem.
“It’s very low, so I can’t really work that club,” Greyserman said. “So it’s a great tee, but it just takes out 240 and rolls to 300. I don’t think it’s useful for the club, although I think it might be very useful there.”
Greyserman is also an avid mini driver user and said the club is also particularly useful in Links Golf because he can remove it, and he doesn’t need 3 wood to hit and hold green. If he uses the mini driver on the deck, he can transport it to the green.
