Steve Williams said when Tiger Woods is “a bit warm”, you can say it. He walked faster. He speaks faster. Things have accelerated. Woods’ adrenaline is doing things.
Williams will do him.
But giving the woods a wrong number of codes is not without risk.

The topic came up when “Suppar” co-host Drew Stoltz asked Williams how he handled Woods when he felt stirred.
“Well, one thing I’ve been noticing with Tigers when they’re running is the adrenaline he’s going to keep moving forward,” Williams said. “And I can tell when the adrenaline goes, he’s going to go faster, he’s going to talk faster, everything gets faster. The biggest thing I do is adjust the yards all the time.
“I’ve been doing this all the time.”
Stolz asked Williams on “Subpar” if he knew what his caddie was doing.
“Yes, it took him a long time to do that,” Williams said on the podcast. “The first time I did this, or the first big moment was having an incredible battle with Bob May on the 17th hole of the 2000 PGA Championship. We got to that 17th hole. The yards said it was a 56-degree wedge, and I just knew that Tiger could get 60 docks there, so I got 60 yards there. So he hit 60 shots. [his ball] He made the birdies and then won the playoffs with little clearance. Now, if I’m wrong, it’s rotten, he hit it in the bunker, he didn’t know, but this is the first time I’ve done that.
“Then, I couldn’t point out exactly when he asked me some questions, but he said you kept doing it and you know what you were doing.”
At one point, Williams said he adjusted his yardage throughout the round.
“I adjust the yards a lot because he just lets the adrenaline stretch and the ball starts to get farther and farther,” he said on Subpar. “So I have to be very aware of this and I have a good deal with it that I can recall a round at Beshill in the final round of a win there, and I didn’t give him the right yards, the right yards, any shots throughout the round.”
Williams said on the podcast that the move was not seamless.
He said: “Now, when you’re on a 3-pointer, you have to be careful and then one guy says it’s 195, I know it’s 6 iron, I told the tiger it’s only 183. So he hit 7, but he hit 7, but it’s not as hard as he should have hit it.”
