Johnston: “Honestly, “I don’t think it’s a long list. I think we think there are a lot of players who can play the role of Leaf you want. I’m curious to know that, in the end, this is not Leaf, maybe some other team, maybe some other team this summer, so Toronto doesn’t know, this is right, is this right?
I did mention a few types of bottom six players on the roster (Nick Robertson, Carl Jainkrock and David Kampf), and what I can see for a variety of reasons is motivation because it is an incentive because someone likes them or just clear out more hat space or even just clear out the roster because you can only carry so many players and none of them will provide space for everyone. Obviously, if you don’t delete (if you keep) add the body to the team, some players will be exempted.

You know, maybe this ends up being a long-term project. I mean, it’s too early, it’s July 7th. Yes, there are always things that can pop up, and I don’t think anyone will see it coming soon. Otherwise, we will see how some of these arbitration cases go on, all of which happen here.
But, you know, it could be a long summer in Toronto. I think looking for that option because the point is, there is no, there is no list of 10 wingers that can be found with Leaf, I don’t think it is.
So if they can’t or don’t want to get in, you know, someone like Bryan Rust or (Rickard) Rakell, maybe (Jared) McCann. I mean, I just don’t know where you’re going to knock on the door.
You know, I do know that there is really interest in (Nikolaj) ehlers and that’s not a good fit for the player of the equation, but he’s certainly a person, I think Toronto has some interest in free agents, but, you know, you know, they’re not alone, right? Nikolaj Ehlers have many options.

So, you know, there are teams that are going to have to be creative, and I think that’s what I’m going to this summer and leaves will be at the top of that list. Because I know, they lost Mitch Marner and they have added some players and they have good reasons to make them feel good.
But I mean, they will need more offensive pop music. I think some of these people could rely on Austin Matthews for his reasons, healthier seasons, and if so, that would require a more productive season. But you know, this is not all internal progressive.

So, you know, we’ll see, we’ll see everything here. But, you know, I don’t think it’s like a wild week. You know, we might get some deals, and that’s what I blinked in that initial tweet. But I think it will be a long and long process and I can see Toronto is one of them.
