Joburg Open Winners and History
The Joburg Open, jointly approved by the European Tour and Sunshine Tour, is one of four South African events on the European Tour schedule.
During the 2017-2018 European Tour, the Joburg Open will be moved to December. Since the 2016-2017 season event was held in February, this means the Joburg Open twice in the 2017 calendar year.
On the European Tour calendar, the Joburg Open is now the fourth game of the season.
The current Joburg public is Randpark Golf Club. The original venue, Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club are undergoing extensive upgrades. Randpark has three golf courses. The Joburg Open will be played on Bushwillow and Firethorn courses in Randpark.
Joburg’s public record was set by Richard Sterne, who shot -27. Charl Schwartzel and Richard Sterne each won two matches. As of 2017, eight of the 11 winners of the Jobgu Open were from South Africa.
The current wallet is 1.3 million euros.
Due to the weather, the 2017 edition was shortened to 54 holes.
