Chieh-po Lee cemented his place on the 2025 league roster with victory at the 36-hole LIV Golf Promotions event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Saturday.
Lee's English name is Max Lee. He had 9 birdies and 2 bogeys in the first round, 5 birdies and 2 bogeys in the second round, and finally won. Finished 10 under par.
Li, 30, will become the first Chinese Taipei player to compete full-time in the LIV Golf League. He mainly competes on the Asian Tour and some smaller tours in Asia, and won his first professional player at the Asian Tour Thailand International Series earlier this year.
He beat Asian Tour players Taiyi Ko and Brendan Grace (the latter was demoted by LIV Golf after his performance in 2024) by two strokes.
The week started with 92 players vying for the sole LIV spot, with the number reduced to 20 for Saturday's finals.
Grace hopes he can play LIV Golf again. He ranks 51st out of 57 players this season, but could be re-signed by the Stinger on LIV.
“Played well and gave it his all,” said Grace, a 36-year-old South African. “Good going. Now I'm going home for the holidays.”
All top 10 players will receive exemptions to participate in the 10 games of the international series.
Also in the top ten are American Ollie Schniederjans and Australians Brett Coletta and Jack Buchanan (5 under par); Germany's Max Rottluff (under 4 years old); South Korea's Soomin Lee , Britain's David Horsey, Thailand's Suteepat Prateptienchai and Zimbabwe's Scott Vincent.
Lee said he hopes his win will inspire other golfers in Chinese Taipei.
“It means a lot to our players,” Lee said. “LIV Golf, I think it's a dream for a lot of players. I go there and they come.”
