The Seattle Kraken host the Tampa Bay Lightning in their first game of the season. The Chargers showed no Southern enthusiasm, beating the home team 5-1.
game review
The game got off to a fast start, with the Lightning receiving a penalty kick within the first three minutes of the first quarter. Emil Lileberg was sent into the box to cross-check with Tye Kartye as the Kraken were on the strong side. With ten seconds left in the game, Brandon Montour scored first for both teams. With assists from Sean Wright and Elie Tolvanen, Montour was able to score from the blue line with the game still in play.
Shortly after, the Lightning tied the game. Nine minutes into the first period, Brandon Hagel scored his first goal of the game. Hagel received a pass from Nick Perbix and fired the puck into the net for the Lightning's first goal. Braden Point broke the tie quickly. In front of the net, Point fired the puck into the net and found its target. He helped put the Chargers ahead of the Kraken, ending the first quarter with a one-goal lead.
The second period was quiet with only two penalties, both awarded to the Kraken. Chandler Stephenson was given two minutes due to a delay and Ryker Evans was given two minutes due to a delay of game. Entering the third quarter, the score was still 2-1, and the Kraken still had some work to do if they wanted to catch up with the Chargers.
However, the Chargers quickly extended their lead. They struck quickly with the extra man advantage when Vince Dunn was in the paint. Jake Guentzel scored on the power play to extend the lead to 3-1. The Kraken played sloppily, pulling Philipp Grubauer out of the net in a desperate attempt to get close to the Lightning. Although Kraken once again had the manpower advantage, it was Lightning who benefited. Hagel scored his second goal of the night and put the puck in the net. The Chargers led 4-1 with less than four minutes left in the game and the game wasn't over yet. Rookie Declan Carlisle not only scored his first goal of the season, but also the first goal of his NHL career. Maybe the Chargers should have him in the lineup more often after this performance.
In the end, the Lightning defeated the Kraken with a score of 5-1, extending their winning streak to two games.
