Shakur Stevenson hopes to see Tyson Fury face IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois next after losing his rematch against unified champion Alexander Usyk in Riyadh last Saturday night.
Fury was supposed to fight Dubois, but he couldn't get close to the apex predator. With the way DuBois treats his body, Fury will be extremely vulnerable in his fragile condition.
I don’t think Shakur understands what anger means. He took calculated risks, and he wasn't going to put his head on the line by facing a walking guillotine Du Bois. If Fury is real, Audie Murphy Type, you don't have to ask him twice to face Dubois. But that's not what he meant. Fighting Du Bois would be Not good for Fury's health.
Too strong, too young?
The Gypsy King agreed that fighting Dubois would show a lot of courage because he didn't want to suffer a third straight defeat after what he had just experienced. This would be an easy fight to make considering Fury and Dubois share the same promoter, Frank Warren.
Before Fury defeated Usyk twice, he considered himself the best fighter in the division. His fans think he's the best and they don't care that his resume lacks quality wins.
Many fans also hope to see Fury (34 wins, 2 losses, 1, 24 KOs) face Dubois (22 wins, 2 losses, 21 KOs) next. That would snap his two-game losing streak and help spark interest in a fight with Anthony Joshua.
As it stands, Fury will be competing against AJ with an 0-2 record in his past two fights, making their matchup a money grab. It would be highly unlikely that Fury and his promoters would agree to a fight with the 27-year-old Dubois.
For Fury, he was too powerful, too dangerous, and too young. The Gypsy King was injured by Usyk, and Usyk is not a boxer. Fury's three fights with Deontay Wilder have had some impact on him.
Fury's calculated risk
Fury's promoter Frank Warren and Anthony Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn are interested in a fight between the two men next. Hearn said he wanted the first game to be played at Wembley Stadium in London and the second in Riyadh.
Hearn is eager to get into the Joshua vs. Fury fight because he knows both men are too old to be trusted to fight a top-15 contender unless they are fully vetted in advance and deemed 100% safe.
