Coach Greg Hackett says David Benavidez will use his experience and physical boxing to defeat David Morel on February 1. Hackett thinks this is a competitive fight through the first five rounds, with Morel (11-0, 9 KOs) looking good, but Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) going to Take over the game and defeat him.
Hackett, like many, believes Benavidez has too much experience in the professional game for the 26-year-old Morel to handle.
Although Morel has had many fights in the amateur ranks against better fighters than Benavidez has faced in the pros, he has no experience in longer bouts. In Morell's five-year career, only three fights have reached the 12th round.
Benavidez-Morrell will meet in 38 days at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The event will be broadcast live on PBC's Prime Video PPV. Morell will defend his WBA “regular” light heavyweight title in his second fight at 175.
Benavidez's offensive style
“He tried to hit him with a belt. It was crazy,” Greg Hackett told YSM Sports Media of how David Morel tried to hit him with a belt after pushing him down during a media tryout His WBA belt hit him.
“They know each other is a threat and have a lot to fall back on. They both have something to prove because they're in a new weight class. Some people like Morel, some people like Benavidez. You always know It's a high-intensity battle because your coach shows up at camp.
“Looking for a real firefight. To see Morel try all his tricks, to see Benavidez dig deep and get to that body and really try to tear him apart. I think for Morel A little too early. I thought he was the more experienced, meaner, more tested fighter all day long,” Hackett said.
It won't be easy for Benavidez to target Morel's body because he moves and has a wicked left hand that's dangerous for the Mexican monster. He will try to get to the body, but may regret it if he is hit by Morel.
Coach foresees 'dark strike'
“Morrell is going to look good in the first five games. Maybe the first three before I see it transform, but I say first five, he's [Morrell] It will look good. Then Benavidez would start to look more and more scary. It will start to get dark. It's going to be one of those dark beatdowns,” Hackett said.
Morel showed his best form in the early rounds against “Hot Rod” Karadzic on August 3, but he seemed to slow down in the second half. However, even in the championship game, Morel was still full of power. Karadzic defended well, which allowed him to avoid a lot of hard hits during the game.
If Benavidez doesn't defend, his defense is his offense. Morel can do a lot of damage to a fighter of this type and might even knock Benavidez out if he's not careful.
