Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta believes the rapid rise of Myles Lewis-Skelly should be the inspiration for other young players.
Lewis-Skelly made her debut in September and was invited to the senior England team today for the World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia just six months later.
The 18-year-old has delighted his left-back position in the UAE with an impressive series of performances and is pleased that his progress has been recognized.
He said: “We are all very, very happy because it’s a really good story and a story that brings a lot of hope to many young players, and in six or seven months your career can be huge, huge changes, to huge changes. So, it’s people’s inspiration. I don’t think it’s happening because he’s lucky. I think he’s doing everything he can to happen, and the way he does it.”
“Very proud. Be proud of him. It was also a big moment for him and the club. One of our graduates received a call from England, which was a huge thing and very happy.”
💬 “I’m proud of him. It’s also an important moment for him and the club.”

Don’t compare Lewis Skelly to Nwaneri – Arteta
Another Arsenal teenager, Ethan Nwaneri, is expected to be called, but he missed this time and instead was appointed in the under-21 age group.
Arteta is sure that Nwaneri’s time will come, but insists it is important that he and Lewis-Skelly be allowed to make progress alone.
He added: “I don’t think any comparisons there are right. I think their pathways are very similar because obviously they’ve been playing together for many years, but after that, they’ll have different moments, each profession is unique to them, they’ll have to make money and what one does not reflect or influence the other in a positive or negative way so that the need to be completely independent.
“It’s great to have someone you spend a lot of time on the road, trusting and loving, and using it in this way is a luxury, that’s it.”
Boss Arteta says Chelsea’s game will be tough
Arsenal faces Chelsea on Sunday, hoping to build on Wednesday’s improvement in the Champions League and win the Premier League for the first time in a month.
Arteta knows that it is not easy to be around Enzo Maresca.
“I think two teams that want to remain dominant in the way they play, are very aggressive in high news, and the way we want to get the ball. At that pitch, a lot of personal qualities are about imposing what you want and wanting to take the game and keep it in a far direction. I think that will be a key thing, too.”
Last season, Arsenal won the corresponding fixture 5-0, but Arteta didn’t repeat it.
“I think it’s going to be a very different game,” he said. “I think the way they grow as a team is impressive, what they do in the coaching staff and how talent they are in the team. Yes, it’s a tough game.”
