The 2025 PGA Tour season kicked off last week at the Sentinel Course at Kapalua Plantation Course in Maui, Hawaii. The tour will be in the Hawaiian Islands this week for the Sony Open at Waialei Country Club on Oahu. A total of 144 golfers are vying for a total prize pool of $8.7 million, with the winner taking home $1,566,000. Unlike last week, the Sony Open will feature a 36-hole elimination tournament.

Fresh off a record-setting performance at the Sentinel, Hideki Matsuyama seeks his second career victory at Waialae (2022), where Grayson Murray notched his first of two career PGA Tour victories Second victory. Murray died in May after winning the Sony Open at Waialae a year ago. Murray defeated Byung-Hun Ahn and Keegan Bradley in a three-way playoff. Si Woo Kim won the championship in 2023.
