Former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary is critical of head coach Gautam Gambhir after the team's poor performance against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Gambhir made a cruel dig. Manoj Tiwari accused Gautam Gambhir of being a hypocrite and added that the head coach did not follow his advice.

Gambhir came in for heavy criticism following India's poor performance as they lost the five-match series in Australia 1-3. The Men in Blue have also withdrawn from the 2025 finals of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC). It is worth mentioning that India reached the finals in the previous two World Trade Championships.

Gautam Gambhir is a hypocrite – Manoj Tiwary

In an exclusive interview with News18 Bangla, Manoj Tiwary criticized Morne Morkel and Abhishek Nayar. He pointed out that captain Rohit Sharma and Abhishek Nayyar are both from Mumbai and added that they hold high status in the team.

“What's the use of a bowling coach? He will agree to whatever the coach says. Moeen Morkel is from Lucknow Supergiants. Abhishek Nayar was with Gambhir at Kolkata Knight Riders He plays for Kolkata Knight Riders and the Indian head coach is very comfortable with him.

“Gautam Gambhir is a hypocrite. He doesn't do what he says. The captain is from Mumbai, Abhishek Nayar is from Mumbai. Rohit was pushed to the forefront by them to deal with all the issues,” he added.

India appoint Gautam Gambhir after 2024 T20 World Cup win

Gautam Gambhir was appointed after India won the 2024 T20 World Cup under Rahul Dravid. Since Gambhir took over as India head coach, the team has suffered several disappointing results, including a loss to Sri Lanka in the ODI series and a 0-3 home defeat to New Zealand in the Test series.

Initial signs of success have been seen, such as the win over Sri Lanka in the T20I series and the win over Bangladesh in the Kanpur Test. However, Gambhir's tenure has been marked by some questionable decisions and the results have not been favorable for him so far. He hopes to turn things around in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

He did not single-handedly lead KKR to the title – Manoj Tiwary

Manoj Tiwari has confirmed the rumors of tension between Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma. Tiwari questioned how the two men could work together with contrasting leadership styles. He said Gambhir was handed the title despite the contribution of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

“How will they work together? Rohit is a World Cup-winning captain, while Gambhir led KKR to the IPL title as captain and mentor. Gambhir didn't single-handedly lead KKR to the title because we all performed as a unit. Jacques Jacques Kallis, Sunil Narine and I all contributed to the cause, but who gets the credit?

India has been placed in Group A along with Bangladesh, New Zealand and Pakistan to compete for the trophy. They will start the new season with a match against Bangladesh on February 20. India will face Pakistan on February 23 and their last league match will be against New Zealand on March 2.
