According to reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) held a review meeting after the poor performance of the Indian national cricket team and the board took strict measures. The meeting was attended by the governing body along with selectors, head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Rohit Sharma.

Previously, the Indian national cricket team performed extremely poorly after the 2024 T20 World Cup. Subsequently, they lost 0-3 at home to New Zealand, and lost 1-3 to Australia, missing the ICC World Test Finals.

Gautam Gambhir and his coaching staff asked about team's poor performance, management blames IPL

According to Dainik Jagran, during the review meeting, Gambhir and his coaching staff were asked about the team's poor performance in ODIs and Tests. The development was revealed by officials from the BCCI Mumbai office.

However, to everyone's surprise, the team management put the blame on the Indian Premier League (IPL). According to reports, a member of the team's management led by Gautam Gambhir said that the big IPL contract is one of the main reasons for the team's troubles. One member said that players will not give their all for the national team in the longest schedule due to the big deals in the IPL.

Gautam Gambhir's staff mentioned that many players did not perform at full intensity in Australia

It is understood that a member of Gambhir's staff mentioned that many players did not perform with full intensity and commitment during the Tests. According to reports, this is considered to be one of the reasons for the defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

The Indian national cricket team, under the leadership of head coach Gautam Gambhir, has had a tough time in both formats. While the team performed very well in T20Is, it performed very poorly in ODIs and the longest format of the game.

The Indian's batting prowess has been one of the reasons for the team's defeat in the past two Test series. The batsmen failed to profit, either at home or in Australia. The bowlers performed well but they didn't get any support from the batsmen which put the team in trouble.

Gautam Gambhir's future as head coach to be decided after ICC Champions Trophy 2025

There are reports that the future of Gautam Gambhir as head coach and Rohit Sharma as captain will be discussed only after the 2025 International Champions Trophy. The performance will determine the fate of the pair, and if they fail, a new set may be possible.

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will be held starting from February 19. The Indian national cricket team will play all their matches in the UAE and will take on the Bangladesh national cricket team on February 20.
