Welcome to “Play Smart,” GOLF.com's regular game-improvement column that will help you become a smarter, better golfer.
If you're even a little tired of your golf swing, you know that weight and pressure transfer is crucial. Moving them correctly promotes pure hitting, builds power and helps maintain consistency. On the other hand, if done incorrectly, it can have disastrous effects.
While these factors are crucial to a great golf swing, they can be difficult to measure during a typical practice session. Golfers can feel changes in weight and pressure, but it's difficult to discern for those watching. It's difficult to know the exact amount of weight and pressure to transfer without the help of high-tech equipment in a teaching studio.
That's changing, though, thanks to one of the newest training aids on the market.
Enter BAL.ON. This groundbreaking wearable training aid is produced by German multinational Continental. exist Your shoe and utilizes pressure soles and other hardware to give you instant feedback on swing metrics such as weight and pressure changes.
I recently had the opportunity to try out the BAL.ON Smart Suite and was impressed by its capabilities. Watch the video below to see how it works, or read on to learn more about my experience.
BAL.ON Smart Suite
When I first heard about the BAL.ON Smart Suite, I was a little skeptical. In my opinion, this is a device that is too good to be true. A wearable weight and stress tracker? There's no way it works as advertised.
After 15 minutes of using the product, I was proven completely wrong. Not only did this product work as expected, it also gave me some instant feedback on my swing.
Here are some of my other thoughts on this product.
Comfort is a plus
Wearable tech—especially in golf—can feel clunky when you first put it on. When the BAL.ON rep told me the stress tracker was going away in My shoes, I expected them to feel a little uncomfortable. But to my surprise, that's not the case.
The pressure sole is ultra-thin and slides easily into your shoe. If you wear any special insoles in your shoes (like me), they go under the soles of your shoes.
When I put the pressure soles in my shoes, I forget they are there. Walking around the driving range and hitting a few shots, I didn't even notice a high-tech training aid beneath my feet. This is a huge advantage for me.
The technique really works
As I said above, when I first heard about this concept, I was skeptical whether this product would actually work. However, I was quickly proven wrong.
I got a half lesson, half demonstration with Mike Dickson, a top 100 golf teacher, to see how he uses the product with his students. Throughout the entire process, he had an iPad next to him with my pressure readings on it.
As I complete the class, I can always see a readout on my iPad showing the weight and pressure on my feet. When he asked me to put more weight on one foot or the other, I could see on the iPad exactly how much weight I was transferring at any given time.
It's one thing to feel changes in weight and pressure on your feet, but precise measurements can provide additional insight that's hard to gain otherwise.
Practice smart
Since first trying the BAL.ON Smart Kit, I have gotten myself one and plan to incorporate the training aid into my training regimen this coming season. The data it provides is critical for diagnosing defects and correcting them.
For someone like me who is less advanced and has a deep understanding of the swing, training aids like this can be a huge help in self-practice. But even for high handicappers, the Smart Kit offers plenty of value. You no longer have to guess about your weight and pressure changes when you go to class. Now you just need to refer to your BAL.ON measurements and work with your trainer to correct the problem.
Since we have a limited amount of time to play the game, it's important to make efficient use of the little practice time we get. With the BAL.ON Smart Suite, it's easier than ever. No more guessing about your swing. With objective data at your fingertips after every swing, you can diagnose flaws and correct problems faster than ever.
final harvest
I've just started using the BAL.ON Smart Kit, so I've only scratched the surface of all the features the product has to offer. But so far, I'm very impressed.
As I continue to get in touch with this product, I'm sure other benefits will become clear. However, for those looking for data on weight and stress changes every day, no other product can achieve this goal like the BAL.ON Smart Kit.
