Former Delhi Capitals player Dinesh Karthik appears to have revealed Axar Patel Will lead the team in the upcoming 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL).
Aksa has been with the Capitals since 2019. The left-arm spin bowling all-rounder from Gujarat was retained by the Capitals for a whopping Rs 18 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. However, his appointment as captain will mean that KL Rahul, who was bought at the auction for INR 14 crore, will play as a professional batsman for the first time since the 2020 season.
“Axar Patel wishes all the best (India vice-captain). It's a great opportunity for him. He will also be the captain of Delhi Capitals. So, it's up to him to lead and guide Good opportunities for the road. He has been doing that for Gujarat as well, so good luck to him,” Karthik said on Cricbuzz's HeyCB with DK show.

When the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against England, Axar was named the vice-captain of the Indian team for the first time. However, Rahul has the experience of leading two IPL teams in the past.
He led Punjab in the 2020 and 2021 IPL and then Lucknow Supergiants ahead of the 2022 IPL. Rahul has been among the top orderers in the IPL over the past few seasons. However, he bats at number five for India in ODI cricket. It will be interesting to see how the Capitals front office uses him next season.
