Charlie Hoffman said competing is fun.
The same goes for him.
“I love walking down the fairways,” he said. “People ask, how old are you? I'm 48. I think myself, in this day and age, when we have 100 players now, playing on the PGA Tour 48 game guys are a thing of the past and I don’t think you’ll see that again for that long.
“But I'm going to fight here as long as I can.”
This week, Hoffman did just that, and he seemed to enjoy those dumbfounded looks. He finished tied for second and fourth through three rounds at the PGA Tour's American Express Championship. He will play in the final group of games on Sunday at Pete Dye Stadium.
Back to those players. Shouldn't Hoffman have slowed down? Of course, there are older winners, but Father Time is undefeated. What's Hoffman's secret?

He said he was healthier. This in turn gave him confidence.
“Three years ago, I wasn't very healthy and I wasn't a very good golfer,” Hoffman said. “If I – I feel great right now. Like I said, I might wake up tomorrow morning feeling completely different. When I'm healthy and it's warm, I feel like I can beat anyone in the world. When it's cold And when my back wasn't feeling good, I didn't think I could beat anyone in the world.
“So right now, I'm in a good spot. I still love practicing, I still – I love playing the game more than I love practicing. I don't like being away from the kids, but I'm lucky that my wife and kids are here. They Literally competing at Thermal, competing myself, doing the hunter/jumper thing so they were spending money and I was trying to make money.
