At 5 minutes and 26 seconds of the first quarter, Brummell scored his first goal of the season, and the Stars got the party started early. Colin Blackwell passed a pass to Justin Hryckowian in front of the net, and the ball bounced off Blumel's stick, which he then buried from low.
Robertson notched his 15th rebound of the season at 13:05 of the power play, this time on the edge of the crease.
Mavrik Bourque scored his fifth goal of the game 73 seconds later. Ilya Lyubushkin sent a perfect pass to Bourque in the left slot, and the rookie backhanded the ball into the empty net to give the Stars an early 3-0 lead.
The Stars started the second set with some push and intensity, but about halfway through, all the momentum went to the other side of the ice. The Red Wings led 14-7 in the period but were unable to get the puck past Oettinger.
Detroit kept the momentum going over the final 20 minutes, controlling much of the game. Kasper ended Oettinger's buzzer-beating run at 12:01, taking Simon Edvinsson's shot past the Dallas netminder.
