Regardless, Clark Bishop's parents will be in Calgary this week.
He and his wife, Kathleen, welcomed a daughter earlier this month, so mom and dad are planning a trip west to see their newest grandchild.
Now, they have plans in place for Thursday night, after Bishop was recalled by bombs ahead of the Sabers game against Scotiabank Saddledome. Get tickets
The 28-year-old Newfoundland native will be skating in the NHL for nearly three years, coming off a career number one callback from being captain of the AHL Wranglers.
“It’s going to be a good trip for them,” Bishop said with a smile Thursday morning.
“I've been having a good year with the Wranglers and our team has been good,” he added. “I think my game is at a different level this year. I thought in the back of my head it was always possible .
“Just be patient and I'm lucky to be here.”
Bishop – who has 47 NHL games with the Hurricanes and Senators to his name – surpassed his career-best total in the AHL this season with 16 goals, including 6 won the tournament.
But his game is all about hard work and grit.
Thanks in part to his performance at the AHL level, Flames head coach Ryan Huska and staff believe it's time for Bighop Bishop to take a look with the Big Club.
“It's a great story to have a player who continues to persevere,” Heska said. “He's the captain of our team.
“He's a tough player, he's a gritty guy, he's a center man and we feel like he can help us in the faceoff circle as well.”
He also brings a lot of experience. When asked about his new forward's excitement about returning to the NHL, Huska cited Bishop's maturity.
