Broom push rod
getTyimages
The broom push rod has been around for a while recently. We saw a great performance by Lucas Glover and Akshay Bhatia at the 2025 Players Championship, both of whom have long-term, broom-style putters in their backpacks. Not to mention Grant Horvat’s recent turn to broom putters, which led to his victory at the 2025 Creator Classic.
With so many great players waving these longer putts, it’s hard not to doubt whether you’ll benefit from making changes. So, I approached Jason Baile’s PGA Teacher of the Year 2025, 100 Golf Teachers and Lucas Glover’s coach to learn more.
Who is suitable for whose broom push rod?
Short answer? Everyone. However, Belle said players struggling with putting (even suffering from Yips from time to time) will get the most reward with this putting style in the bag.
“If you feel anxious, putter moves [back]I think splitting your hands is a great way to achieve that,” Bell said, “When you let that diameter arm swing back and sway, that makes it easy to move the putter away from the ball. ”

What are the benefits of broom push rods?
If you want to improve green connection and consistency, switching to longer putters may be the right move for you. Baile explained that speed control and facial control are intertwined, and most amateurs make a common mistake in vegetables, both of which deprive them of both: making the stroke too long.
“They think they have to really follow the goal,” Belle said.
While it sounds good in theory, Bell explains that backstroke is the power of putters. When the backstroke is too short, it forces you to adjust the “hit” of your stroke to control the distance. This causes you to lose the ability to control your speed and often causes you to slightly manipulate or twist the club when hitting.
How does a broom push rod help?
“Because it is concentrated on the torso at the height of the torso, the backstroke can naturally be longer, and the forward stroke can end earlier,” Bell said. “When the way it is balanced, the speed gets better and the contact gets better.”
This change encourages players to use the length of the backstroke to control their speed without overdoing themselves. The result is almost always easy stroke, and the distance is easy to control, Bele said.
How long does it take to feel comfortable with a broom push rod?
Depending on how well you practice, Baile says it can take several days to weeks (no more than two weeks) to feel confident in the broom in your hand.
The key to achieving a seamless transition is to play in the right-hand position until something works, Belle said.
“Trying to grip is number one, as long as you have the right information, you will have a longer echo, shorter. It starts to happen very quickly,” Belle said.
Should you also know about broom push rods?
The last thing to keep in mind before you go to find the perfect broom push rod is that you want more.
“The heavier it is, the easier it is to get quality,” Belle said.
However, the best way to determine if a putter is right for you is to work with Clubfitter. He explained that if the putter is too long or too short, you might give it up before you can firmly root it in the game.
