Ranking

Kevan is primarily an organizer, although he demonstrated his goal-scoring ability in the 2024 World Junior Challenge. He has an excellent vision, high hockey IQ and excellent passing skills, and is known for his precise timing. He is known for his ability to find teammates in open spaces, he passes traffic, manipulates on and under the sticks and through tight triangles.

His strong anticipation, awareness and clever positioning enable him to take advantage of open positions in the offensive zone. Kevan can see the driveway that few others can see. He aggressively attacked the slot for a second frequency opportunity, had a soft hand at close range, and underrated shots could be used more frequently.

Even if he can protect the ability of the puck at full speed, it is a challenge for his opponent to keep it away from him. He navigates skillfully through traffic and uses advanced deception skills to mislead the defenders, which often leads them to think that he is taking action when he is moving in the other direction.

Although he may not have elite speed, he is still a great skater, which makes it difficult for him to stop rushing and gives him an advantage in pre-review. He can keep pace fast, and his one-on-one skill allows him to challenge defenders and occasionally defeat them outside. His first step was excellent, allowing him to reach full speed quickly. He keeps his footsteps and stays active, forcing his opponent to move positions to create space. He is also a valuable organizer of transition, with controlled hockey exports and entries.

Kevan plays a physically aggressive game and often finds himself in chaos. He not only threw a hockey ball, but also caused a blow from his opponent. He can win the battle along the board and corners. He has high athletic skills, strong work ethics, and shows good defensive engagement. But sometimes he has a banner of focus and effort in all three regions. These mistakes can last throughout the shift, and according to some reconnaissance reports, they may last longer.

When Kevan was in his best position, he was in a good position and effectively used his stick to destroy the game, lifting his opponent’s stick and intercepting passes. He is a full-round player, which could give him a solid NHL floor and potentially be a mid-six winger. Kevan is committed to playing for Arizona State in the 2026-27 season.

Other draft information

Benjamin Kevan – NHL Draft

No one attributes his game style. Instead, his work ethic, speed and departure from hockey make him an interesting prospect. However, there are concerns about his overall hockey feel and whether he has enough high-end talent to be an NHL in-depth scorer. However, with his skills, it may be unreasonable to see him being selected in the middle and late stages of the second round, and it is possible that it will drop until early in the third round.

quotation marks

“Benjamin Kevan is perhaps the most dynamic USHL product to qualify for the 2025 NHL Draft, and when he is at his best, Benjamin Kevan can break the game. In these sequences, the 6-foot forward blends powerful agility, speed and handling skills that can cut defense and provide dangerous scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates.” – Sebastian Gao, Elite Prospect

“Kevin has done well this season in the 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup and the 2024 World Junior Challenge, cementing his stock in the process. The right wing is the latter’s outstanding tournament performance and has performed well in the Des Moines of the American Hockey League.” – Aaron Vickers, Football Hockey

“There is a lot of upside to the Arizona State proposal because he combines the hard work ethics with the load of skills. But, as many scouts have pointed out, game-to-game consistency is a concern” – Steven Ellis, Daily Stand-up

NHL Potential

Kevan’s offensive up-level and ability to work effectively work on the half-wall, and despite his lack of size, Kevan’s skills can still be a solid mid-six player. While his skills are comparable to Tyler Bertuzzi, his skills have greater offensive potential, but this is ideal. He is willing to do dirty work and chase hockey due to his excellent shots, but he can be dangerous when giving space.
