Former England striker Jermain Defoe named Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison is the most underrated player in the Premier League

Former England and Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe has appointed James Maddison as the most underrated player in the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspurs had endured a tough season, and a few months later the team was lying on the second half of the table. They were also eliminated from two domestic cup matches, so the only way Ange Postecoglou’s side has saved the season in some way is to win the Europa League.

The ongoing injury problem has had an impact on the form of some Spurs players. One of them is James Maddison, who has been working to consolidate his position in the lead XI this season. He has only 18 of his 28 Premier League games, but has managed to achieve nine goals and five assists.

While some (sometimes harsh) some experts like Roy Keane criticized the organizer, but lacked consistency, Defoe found Maddison to be the least overlooked player in the Premier League at the moment.

When asked who was the most underrated player in the Premier League at the time, Defoe told Life:

“Maybe James Maddison, you know. I think the quality he brings when we see when he plays for Tottenham.

“I just want to see him return to England and try to join England. He missed the euro, which was obviously a disappointment for him, but I think the best version of James Maddison can play for England.”

James Maddison needs to bring more consistency to his game

Maddison, who struck a £40m deal from Leicester City in the summer of 2023, is one of the best creative midfielders in the Premier League, has yet to meet the lofty expectations of Tottenham Hotspur loyal and expert.

The British figures at the Spurs are not bad, but many hope he can control the game and decide terms with his passing ability, reading games and wisdom. He has the ability and experience that now 28-year-old Maddison should host a show from the middle of the park for Ange Postecoglou to the side.

However, Defoe’s school of thought is completely different because he believes that Maddison is currently the least overlooked talent in the Premier League.
