If you’ve ever fought with inconsistent contacts, you’ll know how frustrating the frustration of delivering a square club on Impact. And, when you manage to do a solid strike, it’s so rare that you’re still having trouble somehow because you’ve missed it for your usual.

Before you draw your conclusions and start an unnecessary swing overhaul, consider trying this drill from Tom McKibbin of Legion XIII at Liv Golf. McKibbin’s simple and effective drill bit is designed to help you keep the club square by impact, thereby facilitating a solid center strike that produces consistent results every time.

McGibbin’s arc drill

To try Mckibbin’s ARC drill in range, place a curved alignment tool on the toe line. Your ball position should be consistent with the midpoint of the alignment tool. Unfortunately, the exact tools McKibbin uses are not sold online at any major retailer. However, you can use flexible alignment aids, such as assistive devices at the bottom of the page, to create arcs with golf TEE.

From here, McGibbin did some exercises focusing on his follow-up activities. He explained that he tends to flip his wrist into the impact, so the alignment aid allows him to visualize his club as it keeps his club square along the curved path from impact point to end.

Not only does this help the player avoid flipping his wrist, which often leads to a missed left hand of the right-handed player, but it can also help correct numerous problems caused by inconsistent impacts – such as slices and even two-way mistakes.

With McGibbin’s training, you can figure out the ball’s flight and keep the face of the square club with impact – making you a more consistent ball shooter, which means suffering more greens in the regulations.
