The Edmonton Oilers returned home from just four road trips and took St. Louis Blues on Wednesday night (April 9) at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta. It was the last regular season showdown between the two teams, and the Oilers scored 4-2 and 3-2 in the OT.

Both teams entered the team with 93 points and had a chance to win the playoffs.
The Oilers started the game, with the second place in the Pacific Division being a four-pointer from the Los Angeles Kings. They have been 5-4-1 in the last 10 times and hope to avoid losing three straight wins.
The Blues entered the game with fourth place in the Central Division and firmly grasped the top wildcards. They have been a stunning 9-1-0 in the last 10 games and have snatched a 12-game winning streak with the Winnipeg Jets.

Game review
The first eight minutes of the game were quite quiet and intense checks, with no many chances. However, a hockey race car in front of the Bruce Net brought Corey Perry and Bruce goalkeeper Jordan Binnington to trade blows, which in turn led to Perry and Blues’ advance Jake Neighbors briefly dropping their gloves. The Oilers ended up getting a strong melee game, but it was a brief 2-on-1, allowing Ryan Suter to dump the second time this season and lead St. Louis 1-0. Edmonton’s Jeff Skinner immediately received 10 minutes of misconduct after the goal, as officials heard a missed call.
After all the chaos in the middle of the time, the tension disappeared and there were some chi everywhere. The breakthrough is solid and rapid development. The only thing worth noting is Connor McDavid hangs up a free throw, and the Blues were unable to use the phone with more than two minutes left. This period was a 1-0 victory and the shot ended 8-5.
The second stage was scored by the Oilers with a goal of just 1:30 from Connor Brown, and a pair of hasty turnovers were obtained from Blues’ defense. Both teams will trade in the next stretch, with both goalkeepers stopping some great shots. The Oilers then take the lead within the period when Vasily Podkolzin beats the Nurse Darnell to hit the rebound. There were more opportunities on both ends for the rest of the period, but Edmonton still had a score of 2-1. The shot was 16-12, supporting St. Louis.
Jordan Kyrou started the third stage in just 14 seconds, finding some open space and overtakes Oilers goalkeeper Calvin Pickard in season 34 of the season. But, just one and a half minutes, Viktor Arvidsson found a loose puck and took the lead back to Edmonton in a delayed fine. The move continued when the Oilers offered a huge opportunity from McDavid and Max Jones to expand their lead, but Binnington was high. Pavel Buchnevich blocked a house less than four minutes after Arvidsson’s goal to help his goalkeeper equalize again. Jeff Skinner was almost able to break the Edmonton deadlock, but slipped one-on-one across the crease with Cam Fowler.
During this time, chaos ensued. Nathan Walker was given a tripping fine, giving the Oilers a chance to win, but McDavid entered the power game for a minor for just three seconds to build four four-on-four hockey until 30 seconds left. Both teams play relatively safely and are a bit waiting for overtime. Walker jumps out of the box, in the partially disengaged partial disengagement burst, but is disturbed by a diving nurse. The show turned around quickly, and McDavid fed Brown’s second night, which was only 21 seconds to play. The Blues made the final push with very little time left, but that wasn’t enough. The Oilers ended up winning 4-3 with an absolute thriller, with a final shot of 26-23 in the Blues.
There are some star-studded performances in this show. McDavid returned with three assists after his injury, including invalid feed to the game winner. As mentioned above, Brown scored two goals and the nurses also had a pair of assistants. For Bruce, Bucevic had one goal and two assists, Kailu had one goal and assist, and Robert Thomas added several assists. This is a game full of performance.
The next game for the Oilers will be Friday, April 11, when they will be at the San Jose Sharks at Rogers Place at 7:30 pm MDT.
The next game for the Blues will be Saturday, April 12, when they made a short three-game trip to Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena at 8:00 pm.
