Manchester United legend Eric Cantoner accuses Sir Jim Ratcliff of “destroying” the club’s identity

Manchester United legend Eric Cantona releases the Illinois head to Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is actively “trying to destroy” the nature of the football club.
Cantona, a cult hero during Old Trafford’s five-year tenure in the 1990s, also revealed that his proposal to support the club’s revival was rejected by new minority owners.
Cantona, speaking at FC United of Manchester, a fan-disillusioned club that he was disappointed with the current direction of United under Ratcliffe.
“Since Ratcliff arrived, this team of directors has tried to destroy everything, and they don’t respect anyone,” Cantana said. “They even want to change the stadium. The soul of the team and the club is not among the players. Everyone around them is like a big family.
“For me, Arsenal lost his soul when he left Gobri, I’m sure, a lot of the fan-lady. It’s like when you walk into the house and feel special energy. Can you imagine Liverpool playing in another stadium outside Anfield in another stadium? It’s impossible. I don’t think United can play in another stadium than Old Trafford.”
Since the finalization of Ratcliffe’s investment in February 2024, his leadership has brought about a wave of structural changes at Manchester United, including plans to replace the iconic Old Trafford with a new 100,000-seat stadium.
In addition to infrastructure changes, Ratcliffe’s leadership also involved a large number of layoffs – a total of about 450 layoffs.

“I think it’s very important to respect people like you who respect your manager and teammates,” he added. “It’s the exact opposite since Ratcliffe arrived. He doesn’t want Sir Alex Ferguson to be an ambassador. He’s more than a legend, I think we have to find this soul again.”
Cantona also revealed that he personally reached out to help during the club’s transitional phase – a proposal he said was ignored.
“Until the end of October this year, I will shoot the movie. But I said to them, ‘I can say [aside] Focus and help you rebuild something. They don’t care. So do I, because I work.
“I didn’t ask anything. But it’s hard for me to see United in this situation. So, for me and respect for myself, I have to do it, I did, they don’t care, I don’t care. They decide on other things. They have another strategy, another project.
“I support Manchester United because I really like Manchester United, but now, if I’m a fan, I have to choose a club, and I don’t think I’m going to choose Manchester United. Because I’m not close to that kind of decision. They have another strategy, another project. Are you going to get close to this project? I don’t think so?
“It’s very important for me to respect people like you who respect your manager and your teammates…but I think maybe we’re dreamers, they’re more like an economy and strategy. I hate this kind of thing. I hate this kind of decision.”
