We are officially located halfway through the 2025 Master. Justin Rose leads below eight times, while Bryson DeChambeau, Rory McIlroy, Corey Conners and many others are pursuing it. So far, Augusta National’s biggest surprise has been 36 holes, and there are 36 holes?
Jessica Marksbury, Senior Editor (@jess_marksbury): It’s Rory to me! Today’s performance. After playing the ic last night, I think he needs a rose-like turn to reintegrate today, but do I really hope he can push it away? I admit I didn’t – was very surprised! What made him mix together was the weekend juice.
Zephyr Melton, Assistant Editor (@zephyrmelton): How about Master Rookie Matt McCarty? In his second major start (and in the first Masters), he had 71 and 68 rounds, finding himself T5 midway. I’m not sure if I could pick that guy from the lineup (and I don’t think I’m alone), but he worked hard with the big boys on the weekends in Augusta. His stuff has been impressive so far.
Nick Piastowski, Senior Editor (@nickpia): This is Rory – not Rory. I thought he finished after Thursday’s Double Shuang Special. But he tells us that he is different. On Friday, he was. That was perhaps his most surprising turn… ever? perhaps.
Alan Bastable, executive editing (@alan_bastable): I didn’t see 90 coming, of course not the one who won twice last year. But that’s the shocking number signed by Nick Dunlap on Thursday. The second biggest surprise? Dunlap bounced at a speed below 71 on Friday. What determination. Be good to him!
Josh Berhow, executive editor (@Josh_Berhow): A lot of stars who can win this thing. Usually, there are several big names now, but this ranking is Package. Bryson, Rory, Scotty, Hofland, Colin. It would be fun to see where everyone goes on Saturday.
