Day 2 in Augusta National books, and the 2025 Masters Rankings are still Delivery is huge.
Justin Rose remains ahead, though now his three-bar mat has been trimmed into one and moves over the day.
What are the shops for round 2? Here are 5 things to do on the third round of the 2025 Masters Saturday.
Leader
Justin Rose didn’t quite summon his magic of 65 games starting Thursday on Friday, but his second round 71 was enough to maintain a one-shot lead on the court.
This is Ross’ third time in the Masters, and the 44-year-old is ready to run for his first green coat again.
“I think my goodness is good,” he said. “I feel like the quality I have in the game this year is much higher than it has been in the past few years. I don’t worry about my own good stuff. It’s just to make the average a little better and bring my good stuff closer to my good stuff so you can compete every week, weekly.”
“Yes, I think horsepower and good golf are still good enough.”
Rory’s rebound
Rory McIlroy was charged in 4 holes in 14 holes on Thursday. Then, disaster, three holes twice as much. He signed a round of even par, and it seemed the Masters might be disappointed with the four-time Major champion.
Then, Friday. McIlroy, along with Corey Conners, launched a 66-under 66 to the T3. It’s an inspiring turnaround.
“Just be proud of my response today,” he said. “I just need to remind myself that I played really well yesterday, you know, I won’t let two people-you know, two bad loopholes determine the narrative for the rest of the week. But yes, ultimately, yes, yes, just be proud of how I’m back to it today.”
McIlroy Trails Rose has two leads.
competitor
The 36 hole rankings are excellent. In total, there are 21 leading players, including Rose, McIlroy and Conners.
Bryson DeChambeau is a shot. Matt McCarty, Shane Lowry, Scottie Scheffler and Tyrrell Hatton were three shots. Major winners Hideki Matsuyama, Jason Day, Patrick Reed, Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele were all yelling.
The gang is here! Let’s see some golf.
Ranking surprises
Looking at the rankings above, one name stands out: Matt McCarty. Who is that?
McCarty hit the Masters ticket with his Virginity win at the 2024 Black Desert Championship. The 27-year-old is currently ranked 56th in the world, with two top 25 in 10 games this season.
The Masters are just the second major championship game of his career so far (he missed the 2022 U.S. Open layoffs), but he proved his victory with a T20 record at last month’s Players Championship.
42 early exports
This year’s Masters advanced to 2 strokes, while only 53 of the 95 players in the field managed to win the weekend’s kickoff time. Famous figures will leave early, including former Masters champions Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia, Phil Mickelson and Adam Scott, as well as betting favorites Sepp Straka, Brooks Koepka and Russell Henley.
The eternal miracle Bernhard Langer and Freddie will also miss the weekend. For Langer, this is the last time.
