Pep Guardiola hopes Manchester City wins the FA Cup and announces that next year’s team will be better.
City failed to win the Premier League for the fifth consecutive Premier League title, but instead found themselves in the scraps of Champions League qualification.
Redemption can come in the form of a cup, and in the second semifinal 24 hours after Aston Villa took over Crystal Palace, the city faces Nottingham Forest.
While this will not heal all the scars in the drainage movement, it will certainly help their path to healing, Guardiola said.
He said: “Whether it is going to be in the FA Cup final or in the Champions League, this season is not good. But of course, we will avoid greater damage to the club.
“From my point of view, it’s the Premier League to decide whether this season is good. Because it will give you a week of happiness, momentum, and after the FA Cup, the Champions League-Guardians’ savings, not saves, free throws, not missed differences.
“But it could be worse, right? It can’t be fifth, fourth, third, and now it can be worse. We’re in our hands and we have an incredible opportunity to play three FA Cup finals in a row and after we have a few days of games we can fight against the wolf. Hopefully we can do it.”

He added: “Next season will be better. I think everyone has learned the lessons and we will compete better in the Premier League next season than this season.
“I’m not saying we’re going to win the Premier League and go to the final stages of the Champions League, the FA Cup or the Calabar Cup because we won’t be on vacation and I don’t know how we’re going to react, but I think the players even realize that what they’re going to do is decent.
“I know the players and the club, we’ll be back.”

Guardiola does not underestimate the forest
Manchester City aims to reach the FA Cup final for the third time in a row, but Guardiola knows it won’t be straightforward in terms of exceeding expectations this season.
“We have a serious and tough competitor,” he said. “The Nottingham Foresters and fans have been playing for a long time since they were in the FA Cup semi-finals, but we’ve been playing for years.
