The St. Louis Blues and Winnipeg Jets unveiled Game 4 of their first-round series at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis with a 5-1 victory and tied 2-2 to advance 2-2, with a chance to launch a lead in Game 5. Jordan Binnington founded the match for Bruce (Connor Hellebuyck) and Connor Hellebuyck.
Game review
Phase 1
It was quiet in the first 14 minutes of the game. The Jets played two powerful games and the Blues played one game, but neither team scored on any powerful game chances. Until the 13:58 timestamp, the Jets first hit a 1-0 lead on the board, with Kyle Connor’s goal assisted by Cole Perfetti (main assist) and Dylan Samberg (second-level assist).
However, with 23 seconds left in the interim, the Blues scored a last-minute goal in the prompt from forward Jack neighbors, on assists from defensive player Colton Parayko. Defensive Cam Fowler received a secondary assist. The score was 1-1 and the shooting percentage was 12-5 in the period.
Phase 2
The second stage begins with any team’s chance to score. Later in the period, things started to become more impactful. At about 10:46, defensive Tyler Tucker defeated Helleybuck in his first career playoff goal to lead the Blues 2-1. Defensive Nick Leddy and forward Alexandre Texier assisted Tucker with goal. Seven minutes later, Brayden Schenn scored his first series of shots on Parayko and neighbor assisted wrist shots, making it three-to-one.
Shortly after Schenn’s goal, defensive player Justin Faulk shot a hit from the blue line to expand the lead to 4-1 as he won the first game of the series. The main assist was attributed to the neighbors, and the second assist was attributed to Schenn. The Blues finished the pace with a 12-11 shooting percentage in the second stage.
Stage 3
In the third phase, the Jets brought more games and gained some close-to-point chances. However, Bruce’s offense remains in sync with the excellent performance in the second stage as Robert Thomas extended Blues’ lead to 5-1, assisting Oskar Sundqvist and Pavel Buchnevich. Hellebuyck was pulled after Thomas’ goal and the Jets switched between pipes to backup goalkeeper Eric Comrie. With about four minutes left in the game, Tucker had a bad advantage over the board and fell awkwardly, forcing him to be sent away. The Blues finished the game with a victory, but the Jets hit the highest overall 31-24.
The Blues and Jets will play in Winnipeg in Game 5 on Wednesday (April 30), with both teams leading the series at 8:30 CST.
