Scottie Scheffler reigns Bryson Nelson in CJ Cup eight On Erik Van Rooyen. This is Schaffler’s first victory after nine wins in the 2024 epic 2024 season. So…it took so long?
Josh Sens, Senior Writer (@Joshsens): First, it was a tragic wonton incident that freed him from the spell. Then, a reality is that winning is difficult and often comes with minimal profit. Scheffler has started nine times this year, and this is shown for this: victory, runner-up, five top 10, rather than one missed layoff. How lazy.
Sean Zak, senior writer (@sean_zak): Others blocked the way. Rory McIlroy, one. Justin Thomas is another one. Schaffler may have performed as well this year as last year, and 15% are enough to get the best week for the other or two. It’s just a number game, but the numbers he proposed this week should scare the rest of the court, including McIlroy.
Josh Schrock, News Editor (@schrock_and_awe): Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas and others shut Scheffler out. Before the Masters, Schevler admitted that the ravioli injury caused him to flinch a little while his hands still needed to be strengthened when he was not in pain, which led to the imposition of a strange ball. It’s just a matter of time.

The victory was Schaffler’s first nine games this season. Last year, he had 4 of four games at 10 o’clock. Which side of the fence are you on: This is another hot first step for Scheffler Summer? Or is the total number last year too unrealistic to match?
Sens: I think we can be fair to expect the hot summer in Scheffler. But yes, the total last year was so weird that I can’t see him match it, and that doesn’t mean he probably won’t win Player of the Year for the third straight season. Lots of golf left.
Zach: Yes, I think this will suddenly stand out. I think he won three more times this summer, with at least one major. The total number last year was too unrealistic to match, but who cares?
Schroker: Will he win six times this year? Probably not. But I totally hope he will knock out a few more times and win the first non-class master major in his career. Let him play Oakmont, which is the Travelers’ championship defense and at least one playoff game.
This week’s win was Bryson DeChambeau, who won Leaf Golf South Korea in his first year of the year. Just two weeks away from the PGA championship, who needs the first win, Bryson or Scotty?
Sens: It’s hard to say, or it’s really “needed” to win. But I will nod to Schefler. He had some tight calls and atypical stumblings–so that he showed some signs of very frustration, even meeting SN in some of his communication with the press. For a guy who is as peaceful as Schaffler, I think you can say the drought spell has started to be eaten on him.
Zach: I think it’s Bryson. He has won several wins on Liv recently. He also let the master slip away. So it’s great to start with lead and close the door. You can bet he thinks his best stuff is still better than Scheffler.
Schroker: It’s definitely Bryson. He maintained a 36-hole lead in Miami and was knocked down by Marc Leishman. He scored well in Augusta’s three rounds and somehow maintained his lead early Sunday until the Iron Show won the chance to win. He had a 36-hole lead in Mexico last week but lost to Joaquin Niemann. If he loses to Richard Bland or Charles Howell III, I think confidence will take a hit and go into Quail How. Scotty could have finished the T10 this week and my opinion of him would not change. If Bryson takes a four-stroke lead in South Korea, I will be disappointed in two weeks. For now, I think he is the best [only?] A chance to meet someone named Scottie or Rory win in Quail.
Why is Brandt Snedeker the next Captain America? We asked him
go through:
Sean Zak
Brandt Snedeker (USA) and Geoff Ogilvy (International) have been announced as captains of the Presidents Cup at the Medina Country Club outside Chicago in September 2026. Do you like the talent show? Why did Ogilvy and the United States become the ones who ended the drought of the international lineup?
Sens: certainly. Both cute players have long enough to win respect from their peers on the court and on the court. Can Ogilvy be that guy? perhaps. He has an excellent game record, including two wins of the WGC title. But in the end, I think the captain’s influence was exaggerated in these events. The captain will not shoot or give a stroke. The conversation and strategy pairing of PEP are only that far away. Finally, it depends on the player. No matter how you shuffle the cards, the United States still has a stronger team.
Zach: I think we are seeing results from both Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson that are not available for captains right now. This team era should be led by them and there is no place to take on the position. So we got Keegan at the Ryder Cup, and his own game could be negative – and in Snedeker overall, but overall “good guy”. Is it enough? Does it matter? I’m not sure it is. But something tells me that Ogilvy will do well (in failure) and then keep a Prez Cup spot in his hometown of Kingston Heath.
Schroker: I like draft picks. I’m not sure how important they are. If the United States will continue to run six of the world’s top ten players every two years, then there may not be many opportunities internationally. I don’t think Ogilvy will lead to their victory in 2026, but maybe when they compete in Australia in 2028.
Sens: A lot, especially in the short term. Sometimes, it’s just a psychological change. I’m not trying to make the player-Gaddi’s relationship inhumane, but I think there is a metaphor that can make a metaphor that seems to be a change of putt that suddenly drains the magic of every putt you’re looking at. You start to feel better, confidence builds and a positive feedback loop begins. For the benefit of long-term endurance, it is not just the sudden rapid dynamics, but more dynamics.
Zach: A new caddie can have a great influence in either direction. That’s why there are few changes! Because bringing a newcomer into the walk, walking and ga around is the atmosphere that players will notice. From the way Morikawa explains it, it sounds like something he is looking for – a kind of oscillation. Probably the most debated.
Schroker: If Morikawa recompets immediately, the atmosphere may help Morikawa overcome the hump. He didn’t play badly, but when things were upset, it was time to change things. If holding Grena on the bag helps give him a different Sunday feeling, the move is worth it, but ultimately Morikawa is going to perform the shooting under his pressure when he is under pressure.
