You know best that he is co-host of golf’s popular SubPar podcast, but this week, Drew Stoltz is launching another new interpreter series of his own proposed by Cobra: Emergency 9. The first topic? How to use – Optimize! – Cobra’s innovative FutureFit33 technology.

New FutureFit33 adjustable Hosel FutureFit33 system features 33 unique Loft & Lie settings that unlock more customization options than ever before. The first time you can adjust the loft and lie +/- 2 degrees, independent of each other, allowing for a more fine-tuned fit customization. Regardless of the setting, the innovative SmartPad design keeps the face angle square. The more extreme Aero Desig’s improved aero shape has a higher crown peak, and the simplified shape has a smoother curvature to further reduce drag and maximize speed. The tour inspired the crafting of sophisticated Clubhead shapes with overhead addresses that promote workability and control, and increase forgiveness. The new internal adaptive weighting system redesigns the PWR-Bridge weight (in 9.0 drivers) shape with a slight curvature to make the CG lower and more forward to reduce rotation, thus increasing the creation of speed. Larger Hot Face Insert A larger forged face insert with hot face technology can provide improved face flexion for improved distance and ball speed. The mixture of forgiveness and rotation control is accompanied by a second forward weight, allowing for additional rotation control.

But, in real life, what would it be like to use this technology? Stoltz heads to the range to find out.
“Basically, no matter what flight your ball is, when you step up to hit these drivers, there is a setting here to neutralize it and get as close to the straight line as possible, or any shooting shape you like, left to right or right to left,” Stolz said.
Stoltz stared at his optimization process with the A1 settings.
“A1 is like a baseline degree in the loft,” he said. “It’s in a standard environment – exactly where it is now – and then we will be able to advance the degree in the loft and lower the degree in the loft. We can make it flatter, we can make it more upright and hopefully find a ball that works for us.”
Stoltz’s first swing in the A1 setting caused the ball to fly high and leave, which was not his preferred shooting shape. For the at-home test, you need to hit a few shots to determine which ball flies the most consistently.
“I’m more of a guy who likes to see the ball from left to right,” Stotz said. “I like it too, maybe a window or two.”

Once you know the ball flight from A1 set up and you have an idea about the ball flight you want to achieve, then all you need to do is use the FutureFit33 QR code, which reveals a chart showing which letter configuration you need to use in the settings to achieve the required ball flight.
“It gives you a big chart,” Stoltz said. “For example, for me, I’m high, left. I want the ball to go lower to the right, so I’ll grab the letters on the lower and right side of the chart, set it to that, and try again.”
With the new recommended settings for H4, Stoltz’s next shot goes as he asks.
“As you can see, the flight of that ball fell,” Stolz said. “I got more left to right than that high and right before, which was easy.”
Stoltz likes the fact that he can make these changes to the ball’s flight without adjusting his swing.
“It’s just a few swipes of a wrench,” he said.
