Watford fired head coach Tom Cleverley in a bad performance.
Former Manchester United midfielder Cleverley is considered one of the smartest young coaches in the championship game, but cannot stop Watford’s slump in the least division in 2025.
News of his departure was not well explained with fans of the Pastor Road Club, with local newspaper polls showing 95% of supporters disagreed with the decision.

“We thank Tom for serving him – not only as the head coach, but for everything he has worked as a player and staff for Watford,” athletic director Gian Luca Nani said in a statement.
“But it’s time to make a change and build with what we think is a young and talented team that will benefit from the championship experience this season.
“It is an honor to work closely with Tom; to understand how he sees the game and his passion for everything here. He should be recognized for that and I’m sure he will have a bright future in the game.
“Tom will always be part of Watford in recognition of everything he has achieved over the years.”
Cleverley joins the lengthy list of fired Watford head coach
Cleverley took over Valerien Ismael in March 2024 and helped them avoid relegation, eventually ranking 15th.
They have been in the playoff framework for most of the season, ranking 14th before winning seven losses in the last 11 games.
The 35-year-old, a 180-year-old Watford player, is the 20th different head coach since the Pozzo family owned ownership in 2012.
The average lifespan of the Watford head coach, owned by Pozzo, is 234 days.
