Although NBA TV ratings are down slightly this year, commissioner Adam Silver isn't worried about the league's upcoming new plans as interest continues to grow.

Adam Silver isn't worried about falling ratings

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver this week addressed some of the new changes coming to the league and provided an update on NBA TV ratings so far this season.

Ahead of Tuesday night's NBA Cup Finals, Silver discussed the recent decline in ratings, but that's not a concern for the commissioner who has big plans for the near future.

“If you look at other data points, for example in terms of our business, we just came off the last two years of having the highest attendance in the history of the league,” Silver said.

“We have the largest social media audience of any league right now and it continues to grow exponentially. So it's not a lack of interest in the game.

A new way to watch the NBA

Despite declining viewership, as interest continues to grow within the league, Silver has made the big decision to show every NBA game on streaming platforms starting next year.

“We're almost at an inflection point where people are watching more shows on streaming than on traditional TV,” Silver noted. “That’s why every game will be available on streaming services as part of our new TV deal that will be signed next year.”

The streaming service Silver is referring to is likely Amazon Prime, the NBA's new 11-year, $76 billion deal with ESPN, NBC and ABC starting next season.

“When we move to a streaming service, aside from how the actual games are played on the field, from a production perspective, it's going to allow us to do all kinds of things that traditional TV can't do. All kinds of new features, all kinds of new options and Available screens.

We announced changes to how we watch the future of the NBA on the same night Silver confirmed changes to February's All-Star format.
